..continuing my search of possible "Toys" have been looking at the EVO 6, the car I lusted after back in 1999-2000. Seen some nice ones for around £7K and I cant help thinking they wont get much cheaper...what with Audi Quattros and other stuff sky rocketing in value.

So two questions, 1) are they worth a punt right now as a car that wont lose value and 2) can they still cut in a world of sub 8 minute Nurburgring lapping hot hatches.

I ask question 2 because I got badly burned in 2008 on a ten year old Mk1 UK Impreza which didn't drive as well as I remembered when they were knew and then dropped a bottom end bearing!

The progress of cars has been extraordinary so I don't want to buy something that now will feel dated!

I'm in the market for an evo myself, it seems prices are all over the place. I did want a 6, however they are quite dated inside and wont offer much of an upgrade from where I am now.
However, for not much more, a 7 or 8 model is within reach, so this is where I'm looking, I think it's the best compromise for the money.

The older the car, the bigger the worry with regards to corrosion.......they can look fantastic until you get underneath.

I've got an Evo 6 Extreme RS450, a very rare car and one that most people on track or road can't keep up with. If you want an absolute animal of a machine that still leaves super cars for dead on a twisty road or a good track, then you can't go wrong. If you want something comfortable and refined that's good on a motorway drive, you probably wouldn't be happy.

As for value....get a good condition red TME and you should be in for a nice investment....

Theres a decent Evo 6 for sale on the MLR at the moment, £6,750 with a AYC light on believe (priced for this)

Evo 8 MR engine with a 9 turbo so running a genuine 400/400. I'd but it if I had the money, it will be extremely fast bearing in mind it will be sub 1350kgs.

Edit: and if it doesn't feel fast enough, MG Autos will do an engine overhaul for £3,500 drive in drive out for 500hp+

Rod job, cosworth head gasket, arp headstuds with a HKS turbo. Cambelt etc are all done as part of the process.

In the twisties on a b road - yes. The traction and midcorner adjustability is what makes the evo such a great car imo - even with its, by today standards slim 225 section tires it seemed to have more traction than my tts does with 245's !

I keep hankering back to another evo, but like others have said the vi's are a bit dated and mine, even though looked after still suffered from rust. The VI engine is only good to about 350 on standard internals also, if you want the easily obtainable stg 1 400 you'll be better off with a viii.

Prices are climbing through the roof at the moment but beware there are a lot of rusty examples out there!

I've just bought a fresh import V GSR.

I would recommend a fresh import through a recognised company as this is your best chance of getting something corrosion free.

I've had a mix of hot hatches and an Impreza before this, I'd recommend V ownership to anyone, if your in your early 30s you have to tick it off your list.

My only gripe is that in your mid 30's in a professional job, they look a bit like a mid 20's car ! smile

I got mije through Max @ Hurst Cars. He normally deals with Subarus but got offered mine at a daft price. DCY, Torque GT or Jm imports seem to be the top ones. DCY seem to have quite a large scene tax though

I bought mine from DCY. I wouldn't recommend them at all.

Interesting, they appear to be the darlings of MLR, even though most of their stock looks over priced to me.
