Hi All

I have a tvr power cam cover fitted on my engine, after the last 6000 mile service it started to leak oil, the cover was removed and refitted, was fine for the first 100 miles or so, but the other day noticed some oil on my garage floor. Opened the bonnet and the gasket has crept out from the cover and leaking again!!

Any suggestions? should i fit a Viton gasket and this time stick the gasket to the cover before re fitting

After picking a few brains at millbrook today, best route would be to get hold of an original cam cover.

Has anyone got one they could sell to me?

The RG gasket is Viton and very robust. To ensure the gasket remains in place you need to apply high temp adhesive, which locates it to the cam cover. It then doesn't creep.

From your previous post I think you mentioned the power cam cover deforming. Your best bet is a standard cover and the viton gasket. You can then remove and replace the cam cover as you wish.

Beads of RTV are simply ludicrous shyte....

Tvr Power used to sell the covers, I think it's the same as the raceapproved ones, They stopped selling them because of leaking issues.
Was advised today by a well respected person that it's best to fit the gasket completely dry.
Also where do i source the correct gasket for this cover?

Thanks Colin

The gasket will move without adhesive.. I worked closely with RG chief engine builder and MD when I rebuilt my engine.

You could try degreasing your current gasket and putting it back in place with adhesive.

M4tti, what adhesive did you use with your gasket? I've got one sat in the garage ready for when i take the cam cover off so want to get the right adhesive for it

Need to replace the gasket as where it crept out two pieces broke off.
Do you know if the viton gasket being sold by TVR parts will fit my cam cover?

Sean I think I used this high temp spray adhesive.. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/320768691072?_trksid=p2141...

Best to lay the gasket out on some paper or a surface that your not too concerned with getting covered in sticky snot biggrin

Colin, it would very much depend on the profile of you cam cover sides. I know the interior edge and exterior of the standard cover has rebates. Whereas your cover looks to have parallel sides. I'd be tempted to order the gasket and fit it. Worst case is if it still leaks you can remove it and clean the adhesive off with some degreaser.

Thanks again Matt
Will see if Powers have any gaskets in their stock first. Otherwise it will have to be the viton one.

Still would prefer to get hold of the standard cover, so anyone out there who has one for sale please let me know.

Thanks Colin

I got hold of a original standard cam cover ( kindly supplied by Dom. ) Fitted this with the viton gasket, picked the car up this morning only drove home which is about 5 miles, popped the bonnet to check and the B****y gasket has crept out again at the front.
Should i just ditch the gasket and only apply a sealant?

Help Please!!

Sounds like they haven't. If you zoom in on my gasket pic the stuff that looks like spiders web is the adhesive. Who did it for you.

It looked more like a type of evo stick glue they used which took a time to go off. Will get some of the adhesive you put in your previous post.

I understood you also had to scuff up the metal on the cam cover so the gasket would stick and stick the gasket first to the cam cover before refitting the cam cover.

Will Rub over with some emery paper to make a good key before gluing the gasket.
