Hi All

I have received a fixed penalty from the French police for apparently running a red light on a scooter last September (!).

I had rented the scooter off a local company who I guess have passed on my details to the French police.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence that I did it (no photo in the letter or anything) so am I just expected to pay up?

What happens if I don't just roll over? The letter is only in French so not 100% sure what it says but have a pretty good idea.

Can I/should I just ignore it?
Can I/should I ask for proof it was me?
Whats to say the guy at the hire company hasn't just given my details by mistake or to cover up someone else's red light run?
Why has it taken 10 months for them to contact me?
Can they take that long and still have a valid penalty? I know (think!) that the UK is 6 months from the date of offence

Any help greatly received!

Thanks

Ben

its €90 raising to €350 after a couple of weeks of non payment.

Its not so much the money more that I am sure I didn't do it and they never seem to have any evidence.

Pay it I got caught in OZ parking the wrong way up the street.

It was waiting for me at home already.

The fee will only get bigger, and if you want to go back you may have problems later on.

If you are hell-bent on challenging it you can write a registered letter demanding the photo as proof. If they get that within the 45 days (I think) of the fine being issued then they won't up the fine if you accept that it was so. I have challenged photos on the basis we didn't know (seriously) who was driving at the time since we were doing an 800 mile journey. We accepted the fine but not the points and settled it.
