In spite of reading old threads discussing the merits of having an extended warranty, I think I'd like the assurance that it offers.

As such, Mondial are offering various levels of cover ranging from Comprehensive (1000), Named Component (840) & Driveline (650), all with 250 excess for my 2011 E93 with 17k miles.

I'd appreciate some guidance & opinions as to which one makes best sense, as I am sure that some of you have already done the maths and assessed the risk.

Thanks

The warranty is like an insurance product so I treat it as such so opted for the highest excess to keep the premium down.

After all, I bought the M5 hoping I wouldn't be making much if any claims.

Just go with what you feel comfortable paying although on my previous 4 mondial warranties I'd always opted for the £100 excess

I have the fully comp zero excess warranty on the CSL.
Well worth the money IMO.

I opted for comprehensive, pay monthly (so the premium does not change even when you top 60K miles), with £100 excess. I also included BMW Emergency Assist as it worked out similar to decent AA or RAC cover.

I don't know if this is 100% true but I've heard it several times... if you take zero excess (and therefore pay nothing towards a repair) you do not benefit from the 2 year BMW parts warranty. Perhaps someone can confirm this.

FWIW, I pay £79/month for the M (E90, 59 plate LCI, DCT, 30K miles).

I seem to recall that the warranty on parts supplied as part of an extended warranty claim are only warranted for 1 year whereas if you bought the same part yourself it would have a 2 year warranty.

This is exactly what I do but without the AA cover.

Same here, also without AA cover. 2004 CSL 35k, about £55 a month. (not that BMW have got any CSL bits to fix it should it go wrong but thats another story!)

Thanks guys, kind of my feeling (get the most comprehensive available).

Interesting to note that I am being quoted £114/m for Comprehensive with £100 excess and no Emergency Service for a 2011 plate E93 M3 with 17k miles. Any point in calling them up to haggle?

Can't hurt, just to add my CSL was about 80 a month to start with given that it was an unknown quantity to them in the beginning, but then came down over the susequent years (I've never claimed)...They did tell me it would drop after the first year as long as I called them to ask, which I did!

Can't see any point in haggling. Yours is more than ours as the warranty has lapsed. I renewed mine a few weeks before it was 3 years old as I was told if it lapsed the price would be considerably more.

Not true in my case, the car was ten years old when I took out the cover, it hadn't been covered in years.

So it's true then Mark. If you were paying £80 per month 10 years ago and we are paying less than this 10 years later lol. You also paid more for the first year as it was currently under warranty then reduced after a year without a claim.

I never said I was paying £80 ten years ago. Also, when I took out the cover ( 3 years ago) I was told that the premium would still go down whether I claimed or not.

I must have mis understood mark as you said in one post it was £80 per month to start with then on another post that you took the cover out 10 years ago.

OP have a look on M3 cutters as there's a thread discussing this in a bit more detail.

You're right I did say that it was £80 a month to start with then dropped, but I said the car was ten years old when I took the cover out, not that I took it out ten years ago. No worries though, either way I reckon it's good value for that extra piece of mind and still worth the OP trying to haggle.

No probs mate. Definitely worth it for piece of mind and I am hoping when I sell the next owner can keep paying the monthly warranty if required. I keep thinking the £77 per month could go towards an M4 but keep resisting the temptation.

Thanks for all of the help (and the introduction to M3 Cutters - interesting and informative).

I have taken out a Comprehensive warranty with 100 excess. The cover start is delayed by 1month, presumably to avoid retrospective claims.

I appreciate the help.
