I've got a 2012 RRS and I'm really quite unimpressed with the quality of the satnav. The map detail is sparse and the traffic annotation is not overly accurate or even there at all. And the ability to search and scroll is almost prohibitively useless.

I've been using Google maps on my android phone in my other car recently, and its such a different experience. The maps detail is perfect, and the traffic is almost pinpoint accurate and upto date. When I go back to the RRS, its like stepping back in time a couple of decades. Sometimes I actually sit the smartphone up against the RRS screen and use that instead.

I'm looking to buy a new RRS next year, and I'm hoping the situation has changed and the satnav experience in the new model has been brought upto date? Can anyone comment on the difference between the two, or indeed against other brands? I'm half thinking of a new Q7, as that has Google maps integrated.

Are you serious? Oh dear oh dear. Is there any plan to update it any time soon?

Now this is what I want to hear. How is the functionality of this 'uprated' satnav and control apps?

I have a March 2015 car and the navigation is great - no issues and very high resolution screen too. I went on the Land Rover offroad experience last week and drove a 2015 Vogue and was shocked to see it uses older technology! The screen resolution on my RRS was much more HD amd clearer. The instructer did not believe me until he saw it himself and was shocked to say the least!

The only difference with the 16MY system is a revised user interface and home screen. The system is exactly the same. InControl Touch is NOT present in 16MY RR and RRS vehicles.

The screen resolution is higher on vehicles which do not have Dual View technology.

I had a quick read online of Incontrol Touch which seems to be coming out with the new Evoque; shame its not going on the RRS just yet. It will be interesting to see the change for the RRS. I guess my main issue is with the poor visual traffic information; but I guess that most manufacturers are the same as they have limited data to work with. GoogleMaps is in a league of its own in this respect, and once you've used it for any length of time, its difficult to accept the step backwards to manufacturer versions.

No, most are now using RTTI rather than TMC, on the BMW the roads are highlighted green, yellow, amber and red.....

I tend to have the main map on the left and then a zoomed out overview of traffic on the smaller window on the right.
This is the older system below, but shows what I mean.
The system below is now 7 years old, and was replaced by the one above (higher res and quicker) 2 years ago..

The nav and whole multimedia really puts me off the RRS, which is otherwise my perfect car.

You are 100% wrong

16MY has just started, likely not even customer delivered yet.

Go speak to a dealer.

RRS MY16 Sat Nav is, I believe, the same as it is in MY15.5, which is the same as it has been for the past few years (slightly larger screen came with DualView) - no InControl Touch.

With InControl Apps, you can use Sygic too, although this does not interface with the dash TFT and HUD.

I had the same issue as the OP - I was waiting for Land Rover to catch up with their sat nav in the L405 before upgrading my L322, but I decided to bite the bullet last month and get the new model.

Whilst it's frustrating that they haven't upgraded the system, the quality of the rest of the car made the change totally worthwhile. There are some minor improvements in the current system, but the underlying tech is the same as in my 08 Range Rover.

When was your car built?

16MY builds started in June I believe

16MY Includes InControl Touch.

Mine's a 15.5. I didn't, and still don't think that InControl Touch (Pro) is on MY16 for the Range Rover Sport. It is on the Disco Sport, and XF; rumoured to be on the RRS for MY17.

I am 100% correct, thank you. 16MY is the same system with revised graphics as per the LR bulletin for the RRS.

InControl Touch is NOT on the RRS or RR for 16MY N

Nav on RR and RRS is absolutely rubbish, hardly worth using. You would only call it good if you haven't used other systems. My four year old BMW is way easier to use and much better to follow when checking where you are going. A lot of people just type in the address and don't actually check which way they are being sent.

Still a great car though and way nicer than Q7 etc.

If you think the RR system is bad in England, you should try it in France. It comes up with some bizarre route options when driving from the south of France back home, and even if you try and influence it with "waypoints", it doesn't really help. I kept getting directed down roads which were clearly not right - some of them were borderline dirt tracks.

I abandoned it and positioned my iPhone on the dash to navigate through Paris!

The Navtec system? in my new DiscoSport is the worst ever, so much so after my hols this week, I used my iPhone instead and I am writing to LR lodging my complete dissatisfaction with it. No town/village names, route planning taking you down the smallest back roads known to man. No option to use 'A' 'B' roads only etc., my 2010MY FL2 was far better and that was 10+ years old compared to this rubbish......

Maybe the extra £25k in a Rangie will be far superior, well at least I would hope so!

Had a 2015 RRS on loan a few months ago and the Sat Nav input was slow. By this I mean when typing the address it was slow to register each letter. The same was true of the 14 plate FFRR I had - both were slower in operation than my own 2011 MY FFRR Nav.

This may sound trivial, but when you're trying to input an address in a hurry it isn't.
