selling an S550 reserved slot

Hi guys,
I reserved my yellow V8 in late Jan but was told last week that I'm redundant, I hope to be back into a new role quickly but to cover all possibilities has anyone heard of people selling the reserved slot or selling on a car to the dealer? don't really want to lose my £2k deposit, any "out" ideas welcome (or offers of work!)

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate news and hope something comes up for you quickly so you can keep the car.
In the unlikely event you did want to sell on your build slot I would be willing to look into this as I am hoping to view a physical car in the next week and then planned on placing a deposit and wait the 9-12 months to get the car.
The wait doesn't bother me so I am not interested in paying over the odds to jump the queue but if it helps you in anyway I would be happy to discuss.

It is not possible for a dealership to take a non refundable deposit, it is used as a scare tactic to stop people wasting their time, if you speak to them they will HAVE too refund you, sorry to hear about the unfortunate news hope everything gets better soon!
I was informed this through other ford dealers selling the stang, I have also been told this before when buying a Porsche, consumer rights etc, also who isn't going to buy a mustang that is available straight away! They won't have an issue selling it

Buy it with your redundancy, I'd say it would be a short term investment. Once these bad boys hit the road there'll be plenty of folk out there with the cash who won't want to wait 12 months to buy a new one and I bet they'd pay over the odds for a very nearly new, and you'd get first press for a few weeks, maybe even months.I should point out that I am in no way qualified to give financial advice.

Sorry to hear OP. I myself have suffered a major downturn in work, about 4 days a month when I need 20 but I'm not letting the Mustang go. As others have said, I'm hoping that the values stay high in case nothing else turns up so I still get to drive her and not lose much.
Is it worth advertising and maybe getting more for your slot than you have paid so far?

Sorry to hear about your predicament, Knownuser. Hope everything works out. I'd have to agree with the 'buy it and sell it' advice if that's what it comes down to. There are bound to be plenty of people willing to pay over the odds to avoid a 12 month wait.
Can you actually sell your 'slot' or have you (the buyer) taken out a contract with Ford that means the car must be delivered to you? I'm not sure how it works, so any expert views welcomed. I'm asking because I may well be selling my car either before I actually get it or as soon as possible afterwards .... as long as I can move it on for a profit, obviously!

thanks for the replies, luckily my skill set and the work environment mean it's fairly likely I'll find something quickly I really wanted to be informed about my options.
it's great feedback that the deposit can't be non-refundable (I'd argue distance selling legislation applies if needed)I did wonder if the dealer would buy the car and not register it as I'm sure they could charge over the odds for one in the first/second batch (not a CL car)
I'll be tempted to buy the car and sell it on (hoping for a small profit/break even) as long as I can and I don't need the redundancy for other things like mortgage and food.
best case I get a new job and I buy the car with the redundancy I'll go shake my old boss by the hand/throat and thank him for the bright yellow V8 in his parking space.

Now the dealer is telling me delivery due in November and i don't want the car until Feb/March...not sure whether to cancel the order or see if they can hold it back.

Just to clear up the non-refundable deposit thing: a dealer CAN deduct reasonable costs from a deposit in order to re-sell the car should you pull out i.e. if they had the car valeted/serviced etc as part of the deal, then they do not have to return 100% of the deposit. It is definitely not as simple as "they have to return 100% of the deposit by law".
I don't think a dealer will have any trouble whatsoever finding another customer for a Mustang, and since the car isn't even built yet their losses will be zero, so it shouldn't be an issue in any way.

Interesting news. To most who have ordered, this wouldn't be a problem - more a pleasant surprise. Me, I don't mind waiting so much as I can save more of a deposit, but it would be nice to have it this side of xmasGassing Station | Mustangs | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
