looking for a detailer in Notts who does 'home visits'

i want a monthly mini detail on my Range Rover L405

used a few in the past but its the same old story - start off very well and then the standards drop and the price rises!

obviously the car is pretty much perfect so its not exactly a hard job - really a glorified valet

i used to detail my own cars but increased disability problems mean the Range Rover is just too much for me

any suggestions much appreciated

thanks

Pop your postcode into - http://www.pro-valets.co.uk/ you should find 'x' number of valeters/detailers local to you.

i think i used him when he was outside Newark?

he used to do give you a lift home - then he moved to i think Sutton on Trent and then point blank refused to give a lift home and expected me to take a taxi!

its not as though i expected a 'free' lift home as he would be billing me for his time - frankly he got very arrogant with a take it or leave it attitude

that has been a common problem - when detailers are trying to establish a business they cannot be more helpful - once established they get 'picky' and prices start to rise for a reduced quality of service

the last guy i got rid of used to spend seven hours on a mini detail - now its done in 3.5/4 hours at the same price - corners were cut especially on the interior and glass

Thanks for the recommendation, Feirny and also to those that have directed me to this post..

Nicholas, as explained at the time, it was impossible to accommodate your requirements due to the simple fact there were not enough hours in that day. I appreciate you were willing to pay for my time but with what was being asked of me in the already limited timescales, the day would run short and that's when your “corners are cut”…

I'm in my 6th year of trading now and going from strength to strength; customers new and old that use my service have either pre-planned a lift to follow and take them home, or, they book a taxi... If I took my car for tyres, a service or a respray, I would not expect to be given a courtesy lift back.

I'm dissapointed to hear that I came across as "arrogant" with a 'take it or leave it' attitude... As far as I'm concerned, I was only trying to help.

Jim.

Jim.
well Jim thats not what i have found

when i change from summer to winter wheels and tyres my local tyre shop comes to my house to swap them over and they store my wheels free of charge

i recently had to have a couple of stone chips done by my bodyshop - i delivered the car and they gave me a lift home (18 miles return trip) and when the work was completed they collected me and took me to collect my car (another 18 miles round trip) - cost of the work was £160

whenever my RR is serviced or has any warranty work done by Gordon Lamb they collect and return my car (30+ mile return trip)

in fact the car is going in on Wednesday for warranty work and they are collecting and leaving me a Discovery as the work may take three/four days

so it seems some are prepared to go the extra distance to help customers

never mind - glad your business is prospering

But they all seems to be rather large businesses than can spare someone to adhere to your needs, being a one man band Jim has to down tools and loses time on jobs doing that. In an ideal world, I'm sure he would but it's not always that easy.

Anyway, just my thoughts, not looking for an argument.

but i was prepared to pay for his time?

when he was at Sutton on Trent it was max twenty minutes to my house - so forty minutes return time

its his choice - fair enough

but its not exactly 'my needs' as you put it - people expect service these days - its often very difficult to get a 'lift' when the premises are in remote locations off virtually all transport routes?

and if you don't want to take/collect customers 'home' a cheap courtesy car with the business name on the side makes sense - hell even the local Ford dealership gives me either a courtesy car/delivery/ collection service when the Focus goes for service/MOT

i've had enough businesses to know that the 'extra mile' makes all the difference

yes, a phone call from a potential customer at 10pm on a Sunday evening is a pain - in fact in one instance said call led to a big profit for one weeks work for a US client

Im on my own in my bodyshop, if I took 40 mins to drop a customer off then thats 40 mins im working later that evening.

We are all here to run a business not run around to everyones beck and call 24 hours a day, we do have a life outside work as well.
