I've never had anything that was truly relaxing to drive. The 330i came closest, but the auto gearbox would occasionally flutter just as I was pulling out from roundabouts and t-junctions, which is most un-relaxing.

So, err, E46 M3 then. scratchchin

Under gentle acceleration and driver with three passengers, used to average 12mpg in the A8. Would not have got rid of it but for the £130 fuel fill followed by just over 200 miles on the road before the next fill.
Christ, that's bad.
I'm averaging ~21 ish. A gentle run in traffic on the motorway returns 27.

I have genuinely drive 200+ miles at 'normal' pace without seeing more than 2200rpm.

I'm aware I probably should have bought the diesel.

my Saab 9-5 (2004) Auto is pretty damn relaxing.

The only issue is that the 2.2 diesel lump is just a bit too down on power so getting up to speed is more work than I'd like.

Of course the correct solution is to buy a larger capacity petrol turbo engine.

The Aero HOT exists for exactly this reason. 3rd gear was particularly entertaining, and plenty of boy racers were surprised by an old bus with terrible paint.

I've not owned anything relaxing, but as for household cars, I find the (2004) Land Cruiser is at the top. The '98 S Class was alright but it wasn't a very good one and never felt "right". It was a LHD - RHD conversion. Not sure if it made any difference at all but it always felt odd to drive.

I didn't own it, but second to the P38 Range Rover might be the Chrysler 300C I hired in Florida. Tyre walls a foot deep, suspension like blancmange and soft seating. Really enjoyed cruising about in that and would happily own one if I had the space.

Volvo V70 with all the bells and whistles. Used to commute from the Thames Valley down to Devon twice a week, quite often arrived with no idea how I got there!

Land Cruiser 120 series.

Just effortless cruising, even with 2 tonnes of caravan hanging on the hook.

Same car that I go on and on about here, my Nissan Leaf.

I've owned a lot of cars in 30 years of driving, none of them come even close to this one in terms of relaxation.

I have a Zoe and I'd have to agree about leccy cars being relaxing. The thing is just effortless - quick off the line and there is little bar a Tesla that I'd rather commute in.

For longer journeys it would have to be my old V70R. Cruised down to the South of France a couple of times in it, loaded up with the family.

I find the wife's mk4 mondeo titanium x a pretty relaxing, comfy car to drive when i get to use it (but then again my daily is a mk4 golf on coil-overs so it's hardly surprising)

1983 500sec for me.
The A8 is aluminium and as such even the v8 petrol should be returning 25 mpg. Talk of 12mpg is horrendous

BMW E39 530d manual in SE spec on 16" rims with 225/55 tyres. Magic carpet ride.
Proper continent crosser. It's what I've got now.
Given the choice between my M5 and the 530d for a 1000 mile motorway journey and I'd be picking up the keys for the diesel.
An A or B road thrash?
Got to be the M5....
...every time.
Same chassis but two very different cars!
In the latest F10 530d (incl venting) you might be able to do that on one fill - M5.... 4 stops?
You can get 350 miles out of a healthy e39 m5 on a motorway cruise...
