Assuming its not overheated to the point of doing in the HG, is a failed water pump likely to have done any other damage? VAG 1.4 8v engine

Engine still run?

Very much depends on how long the engine was run at high temperature, by that I mean in the red
You could shift a liner or warp a head but I very much doubt it if you have no visible problems right now
I would fit a new pump and see how it goes, you can't even run the engine without the pump working

If the pump is driven by the cam belt, it's failure can knock out the cam timing and cause all manner of damage to the top end.
