Hi,

I'm contemplating converting a Small Block (LS6) running on Carb's to injection & would welcome any advice that can be offered regarding the best set up/ equipment to use - the car will be used on road & for track days/sprints.

Thank you in advance.

I have done this conversion twice on old style SBC engines. 1st question is what controls the ignition at the moment? The 1st conversion I did was a system which did not control ignition. This was not a problem as far as the nice running of the engine went at all. It just made the conversion easier and cheaper to do. It also enabled me to upgrade the ignition at a later date to electronic control rather than mechanical. The result was much easier cold starting and better running throughout. Auto speed up of idle when aircon cuts in etc. You should not expect a massive fuel economy improvement unless your carbs are in a bad way! The system that I installed was a self learning system which did not require any expensive dyno or on street tuning with a laptop and a clever/expensive guy doing it. Any further changes to the engine are automatically catered for. What I did learn was that the design of the fuel system needs to be carefully considered if problems are not to result! I now consider myself as a bit of an expert on this piece of kit and am currently installing a more expensive version of it on a new engine. There are other considerations to take in to account like what state of tune is your engine in before choosing equipment. A std LS6 motor might be ok with a gm system which might be a bit cheaper depending on what sensor are on your current engine i.e. cam and crank position etc. But if your motor has any mods like non std cam etc. You could spend far more than you have saved on dyno tuning etc. In that case a self learning system may save money overall. PM me if you wish to discuss further and believe me there is a lot more to consider! I also have a complete system on the shelf which may suit you depending on the spec of your motor.
