Should I?

Sold my Bandit S, was great for what I needed it for. Now after something more exciting.
I have a 97 ZX6R which I'm tarting up and re building - that will be predominantly track use.

I've been toying between a Daytona 675 and a k5 GSXR.
It seems for my budget I can get a nice K5 compared to a few and far between nice 675.

I'm going to look at a few this weekend and see if it ticks the boxes, main one being fun. It will be used in all weather , will take it around Europe too. So any advice on what I should look out for?

The 1000cc isn't an option.

I've had a K4 750 (same bike) for 4 years and 15k miles its been great.

I've done a few mods to mine - R1 5VY calipers, Nitron rear shock, front forks rebuilt and sprung to suit and a Healtech FI tuner. None of this was really necessary but makes it really nice to ride.

I normally use it for a rural 20 mile each way commute and get high 40smpg. I went from J6 M25 to Southend yesterday including about 6 miles of filtering at Dartford. It was plenty comfortable on this run for me. It can feel a little wristy at low speed when wind blast isn't taking any weight off and my hips can feel a bit cramped (5'10") but its pretty comfortable for a sports bike.

Its easy to work on (both side fairings off in less than 10 mins) and all round nicely designed.

It has a real kick at 9k rpm but it isn't flat lower in the revs. I often overtake on my commute without dropping below 5th.

Mine has done 30k now and uses no oil, sailed through another MOT this week. Buy on condition and you can't go wrong.

Sorry for the derail Jonjo, too good an opportunity to miss.

Trickywoo, what do make of the nitron shock? Is it the base one with one damping control for rebound and compression, or a higher spec one?

Its the base spec with no external reservoir. I got it because the standard shock was due a rebuild and the cost of the Nitron sprung for my weight wasn't that much more.

Its a nicely made item and while I wouldn't say the difference over standard was night and day it does feel more composed and I think a worthwhile modification if your standard shock needs work. I didn't weigh the Nitron and standard but the Nitron is a lot lighter - doubt it makes any difference being lighter but good to know.

The caliper mod is well worth while you just need a good machine shop to take 5mm off the lugs. You may also need to have new hoses made to suit but its not much bother.

That's great cheers, been looking at options for my k4 1000 and it's always good to hear a first hand opinion. Not had it long so still seeing if I can tweak the standard shock to suit but it is getting near a rebuild anyway.

Congrats mate, looks excellent.

I was after another 750 at the the start of the year and there was nothing out there(in Scotland) and ended up buyin a k4 1000 cos it was right place/time at the right price but I'm still wishing I had held out for the 750.

What's the weather doing your way, think you'll get some miles in today?

Mine came with stomp grips as well and I like them but they've already wore a hole in the knee of my leathers.

I wouldn't say they've transformed my riding but I like them. Dislike holey leathers though, so can see them coming off

I actually collect it tomorrow. So it's not sat in my garage yet. As for the weather,I've been less wet in the shower so probably wouldn't get any miles done today anyway.

Summers been crap so far. We've had a nice morning here so far but my wife's workin. The rains due to start for her getting home!

Bought the bike for pleasure and now do more miles commuting.

So you got any plans for the bike or just ride as is and enjoy?

Bog standard paint scheme I think?

As for plans, turn the key, ride and enjoy.Might change the screen but we'll see how it is tomorrow.

It's got the arrow end can and power commander too which is a nice little addition. Hoping to wear the diablo rosso 2 tyres out reasonably quick as they won'tbe much fun in the cooler months. Thinking about it, I've got some heated grips I'll prob fit too.

Your OP said the 1000 wasn't an option. How come?

Just interested. I think the 750 is a blinder anyway!

Insurance was the main reason. Quite a big price jump from the 750 to 1000. I haven't reached my mid 20s yet so still pay a premium!

This one was from Kent.

Bikes all tucked away now. M25 was a nightmare getting there.

This thing is so much fun to ride, second to third at full chat is like being thrown out a cannon.
6th gear on the motorway makes for effortless overtakes. 70-100 is scarily quick, this being the fastest bike I've owned I'm really looking to getting to grips with it (sensibly).

Shot from petrol station before home.
