I want to fit out a few rooms in my house with some led downlighters and wanted some advice on whats good and what isn't.

I've seen these which seem a good price, anyone else used them?
http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-fixed-fire-rated-led...

Id rather spend a little more now on some energy efficient ones than buy cheap fittings and spend £££ running them, so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

What ever you go for you need to check the colour rating of the LED bulb. Often given as cool white, warm white and extra wam white. This is ranked as well by 'temperature' with about 5000k, 3000k and 2700k respectively.

Cool white is going to be too harsh for most people's living rooms, bedrooms etc.

Even warm white (at 3000k) is whiter than conventional bulbs. I've hunted out 2700 k extra warm ones which although are a bit more expensive, provide a nice light for living areas.

I would suggest if you can trying some different ones out.

Having looked at these today for an install http://www.jcc.co.uk/fgled/fgled10/range-overview/
I would thoroughly recommend them.

Others have suggested Zepp downlighters from Ecoled already. They're excellent, and the best source is PHer E36GUY.

There's a long thread here
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

and Guy's post at the top of page 2 explains why they are so good.

Edited to say..

The LAP 2.5w in the screwfix link don't quote the lumens at all.

The FG LEDs give warm white 10w give 750 lumens

The Zep gives 7w 770 lumens.

As guy explains in his post, LED output is dependant on good cooling, as they heat up, so the light output decreases. If the unit isn't designed with good heat dispersal, the output will start high, and then diminish as the unit heats up.

I will be buying more of the Zeps - they're flippin brilliant.

Another vote for the ZEPs, they really are far better than any equivalent I've seen.

If you're fussy I'd do one small room first and decide if you're happy to proceed with everywhere else, LED is very good but there's almost too much choice for people and certainly a wide range of quality.

Just fitted these throughout my place. Quick and easy to change over from existing Low Voltage Halogens.

And these where dimmable weren't needed.

Another vote for Guy and EcoLED, jus made an order for £600 of ZEP's on Thursday.

He patiently answered lots of my questions and took the time to go through everything, can't wait to receive the bulbs.

The obvious question is how many are you getting for that money?

Nothing wrong with Ecoled Zeps, but I recently tested about 10 different LED downlights for our new kitchen and for our requirements we went for Collingwood Halers H5s.

I'd say EcoLED and Collingwood is probably all you need to consider as they both have a broad range of fittings with various pros and cons but they're all top quality in terms of build and performance from what I have seen.

He has been away and is currently on holiday for two weeks.
You could always ring their general customer service line and discuss your requirements.
Then when you've worked out what you wanted email Guy directly.

Only this week. I'm back Monday 3rd. If I've missed any emails from people trying to contact I apologise but they come through on my yahoo account and may have gone into spam which I rarely check as I only get that account via my phone.

Cheers for all the recommendations people. Much obliged.

What is the cost of this conversion? We are moving into a new place and there are 35 GU10s, maybe a few more I missed.

If you already have the fittings installed and want to upgrade them to LED's then the LAP LED's that Screwfix are great, I have 5 in my kitchen and they are really good, and all the reviews on the screwfix website are positive. plus they are the right size to be a direct hassle free upgrade.
