Good horror movies..

There are far too many bad ones out there.... So any recommendations of some which are actually a good watch?
Preferably something modern-ish, I've watched most of the classics.

Frailty and also Jacob's Ladder are 2 lesser-known, great horror films. Neither especially modern but they may have slipped beneath your radar

Decent horrors seem thin on the ground nowadays, either crappy remakes or ott gory shock horror rubbish.

The Changeling (not the Angelina Jolie one) is a bit older but a perfect example of how you can create fear without jump scares or loads of blood. Lots of great foreign horror films like Shutter, The Eye, Premonition, Dark Water or [Rec]

Thanks for the suggestions so far. a few I've seen, but a few to look into!

Just so happens I bought 'It Follows' the other day, but haven't watched it yet... Was looking at another to watch after.
Yea, it's not my favourite genre either, but good now and again if you can find something decent!

Enjoyed the woman in black, I didn't think I would because Radcliffe tends to annoy me, but was very good. I just saw there is a Woman in Black 2, but that seems to have terrible reviews.

Horror is quite possibly the hardest one to pull off.

I really enjoyed Woman in Black and Sinister. Cabin in the Woods was pretty good too.

Evil Dead 2 and Dawn of the Dead remake stand out as well.

Both good films too. The Decent was one of the very few films to actually make me uncomfortably scared.

Far too many film makers forget that what you can't see is scarier than what you can. Look at the hand holding scene from The Haunting, which creates real tension with only the power of suggestion, or how little the Alien is seen in the first film. Getting a bunch of unlikeable teens together and creating lots of cheap jump scares does not make a good horror film.

i have pretty much given up on horror as its nearly impossible to find a good one these days but always thought The Descent and The Hills Have Eyes(2006) were pretty good, if you don't mind subtitles then these are well worth a watch
