Picked up a EP3 CTR today and I want to get it in for a service and valve adjustment, but don't want to pay main dealer prices if possible! Trying to find someone who knows their way around a Type R in the Glastonbury/Wells/Bridgwater/WSM region.

High mileage, but good condition 53 plate Civic Type R, a stack of receipts about 3" thick and 99% stock bar an intake and back box. Build quality is on another level from the Clio 182 I just sold, but does not handle quite as good.

There is nothing special about the type R on the servicing front.
The oil for the gearbox is a bit special and has to be honda only, same as the coolant.
Spark plugs and tappets are very straight forward, if you have ever done this sort of work before.
If you have serviced your own car before don't be put off having a go at this one.

I have done valves on motorcycles before but never done them in cars. On bikes you keep the engine at TDC for the entire adjustment process, where it looks like for the CTR you have to bring each cylinder to TDC separately, which kind of threw me off.

If you have done that in the past I'm sure you are more than capable to do this as well

I downloaded a copy of the workshop manual for here.

http://www.hondahookup.com/forums/downloads.php?do...

It requires a sign up but that is all. It should tell you all you need.

I've used these guys in WSM when I had an issue with my Accord and found them to be friendly and most helpful.

I called him earlier, he quoted me over double the price that the Ash Honda quoted me! Im just going to do it myself, after looking more into the process, it is very straight forward.

Why not give John at fcm motorsport a ring there in Bristol just off the feeder road

It's a small garage but always great service there

I think the plugs and the valve clearances took me about an hour from start to finish. It hardly gets you out and back from dropping the car off.

I think I have made up my mind to just do them myself as soon as I order the cam cover gasket (I might refinish the cam cover while its off also) I have all the feeler gauges/torque wrenches and stuff needed so there is really nothing stopping me, plus I found several how-to guides on the web.
