I think Shmee makes some interesting if specious points here. What I keep coming back to is the whole symbiosis of it all. The car spotters are there to catch supercar drivers making noise and accelerating quickly past them, that's what gets their videos views, and that sycophancy draws in those who are looking to draw attention to themselves.

Shmee gives some mundane examples of supercars just pootling past the camera - one might argue to conveniently prove his point - yet at the end of the video he's got some "More Shmee150 videos you may enjoy" with someone revving the bks off a Merc on the street. laugh

"There's not much misbehaviour going on in London, or if there was I would be uploading all the videos from it." "I'm not filming the guys who I think do come along just to cause trouble because I don't want to promote that behaviour" - aren't those statements contradictory?

Regardless of Shmee's personal agenda on this I find it hard to believe Kensington & Chelsea are considering introducing this policy on a whim, it must be based off of (probably numerous) complaints from people who have more right to be there, and can't avoid the noise. It's wky behaviour whether it's Shmee filming it or anyone else.
There is no way I'm watching/listening to 12 minutes of that bell end laugh His style of presenting is cringeworthy, and he's just a hypocrite anyway. Happy to fund the finance payments on his McLaren from youtube hits from all the arabs acting like aholes... its embarrassing watching him try and justify it. I'd have more respect for him if he just came out and told the truth and said i'll do what i want as it pays for my next super car.

Makes me so happy when I read stuff like this that I moved so far away from London to enjoy roads to drive on rather than pissing about in congested towns/cities like these tts...

Slightly OT but I'm amazed that Youtube videos can generate an actual income or serve as an alternative to a real job. Anyone know what kind of figures? (Not that I have any desire to put anything on Youtube, don't even have an account, just intrigued smile)

If anyone is driving around Knightsbridge in the next 2 weeks keep an eye out on me as I will be joining the car spotters.

Except I will be filming them, filming you!

biggrin

Here's some irony

I was in Chelsea last Saturday night hoping to see some Yank classics at the cruise and was really disappointed by the poor turn out at the Bridge, on the way home I drove along Sloane St and soon ended up in a huge jam, I started to realise what was going on when a particularly ugly Veyron came towards me followed by Lambos being revved to the limiter over and over, my reaction was WHAT THE F**K is all this st about?

I was so looking forward to seeing something loud from the late 60s doing a smokey burnout but borderline infuriated by the Sloane St "display"

Basically you stopped in a jam caused by idiots with cameras chasing cars?

That to me makes leasing a succession of McLarens very affordable especially as the lease payments might become tax allowable as the car promotes the business

Didn't/doesn't he also have a job in financial services too

Basically I`m a hypocrite!

I went to the old school Chelsea cruise and was disappointed by the poor turn out yet I was highly irritated by the Sloane St madness!

I`ll always be curious about the Chelsea cruise but I will be avoiding the whole Sloane St area until the weather gets cold(er)

This law is a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Legislation already exists - section 59, etc.

Unless the authorities issue instant fines most of the drivers will have left the country by the time the summons arrives. As has been posted will they worry about a small fine?

The convoy part will stop drives like the one to Cliveden.

The XKR and F type automatically blip the throttle on start up. There may be other cars that do likewise. So you turn off the engine whilst sat at the lights, restart the car, it revs and your fined.

Would you trust a council employee/bib to realise you're not a racer doing it for fun?

Apart from doing the Cliveden run I wouldn't take my car into London. Far nicer to drive in the countryside.

That's over 9 years. So it's £20k-£45k a year before tax. Certainly nice extra spends but not £200k car purchasing money. Still, that is the dream that all the annoying little kids running round with handycams in Knightsbridge think is the reality.

To be fair McLaren may be giving him the car at a significantly reduced rate for the publicity. I did find it odd he went from a 650 to a 675 instead of trying something new which would surely be more interesting for both him and his followers.
