Having car detailed in a week, am currently debating whether or not to ask the guy to refit the front plate or not. It's a 5 character reg and is already trimmed down.
Car (Ferrari 458) looks better without it in my opinion as there is no appreciable recess for it, but am conscious about how it might be perceived by both the Police and general public (I know I probably shouldn't care, but wondering whether it could be seen as negative "this guy thinks its one rule for him and another for the rest of us" thing)
So, thought I'd throw it out there to get some apocryphal experiences and consensus

Thanks in advance! There seems to be loads of cars near me trying to pass off a plate on the dash (it fell off, honest officer…) as legal. They tend to be the Jap cars and M3 wannabes but it really pisses me off if I'm honest. I think others may see it as arrogant and trying to avoid the law - speed cameras, unidentifiable cars in the event of an accident etc…
I know this isn't necessarily applicable to you but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk of having the car vandalised if you stumble across a Jeremy Kyle'r who thinks you're trying to be above the law.

Yeah, this is my main concern to be honest, moreso than Police attention. Think on balance it's probably best just to keep it on there, one less thing to have to ponder.
Got stopped on 1st day without a plate on the Lambo so ended up with a 330mm x 89mm plate with 64mm Font as it fitted nicely in between the Performannte front air intakes ( Reading DVLA notes this was legal for an imported car not designed to have a front plate ).
Never been stopped since and I actually think it looks great being smaller and perfectly sized for the gap

Might be worth remembering that it's not your number plate that you're failing to display, it's the property of the government. Fail to display it and don't be upset when the governments' agents sanction you for it. Repeatedly abuse the requirement to display a valid plate, then the DVLA will rescind your registration.......
Its not about the 64 mm - its something to do with whether the vehicle was homologated initially without a specific location for the front plate - this gets compromised if the manufacturer's UK importer then supplies brackets - my recollection is that the Enzo is one of the few vehicles strictly able to use this exemption
Stopped for not displaying plate on front of car. Told very sternly that I could have got points and also displaying on dash is not sufficient. I didn't do it out of vanity. Was in the process of changing plates and waiting for v5 to come through and didn't want to risk ripping off paint shield protection when taking old plates off. Strangely I think cars look a bit weird without the number plates on the front!

Never had a front plate on the Scud and it soooo much better for it. All personal preference of course...As for the above, the 'threat' may have been points but unenforceable as you can only get a fine and a producer to fit (imagine all those test drives on test plates thrown in the front risking points?). Do however get points for non standard (chav type) plates...

I know A LOT of people who don't run front plates (and some rears...) for looks, recesses smoothed off etc, I only know of people getting a fine for no plate, never points, and that's only a small few.
I'd run without, looks so much better, unless the cars white then it can sort of get away with it.
