I was not aware that Donington's 98dB track day limit is drive-by. If that's the case and 98dB is the drive-by limit, we need to know how far away the mics are to get the full picture but it is certainly very loud and you aren't going to trouble it with a standard Carrera.

Reading the detailed Noise Management Policy pdf on their website doesn't tell you how far away the mics are so it's hard to gauge exactly how lenient the limit is, but it does note that any car which they feel might exceed the limit will be static tested. For their noisy days at 108 and 118dB, these are static limits, not drive-by. Plainly Donington can perform static testing when required, just as they do at race meetings, and the earlier advice about getting the car tested if unsure is not "bks".

A standard Carrera exhaust should be well under... I've seen GT3s, Clio Cup race cars etc at a Donington track day and they are louder than a standard car.

I'll eat my internet hat if a standard 997 C2 fails any noise test, static or drive by of any UK trackday.

I agree.

Call Javelin and ask if any unmodified 997s have struggled with noise at Donington before. Or call Bookatrack, who are based there and run plenty of trackdays at this track, including (I think) the annual Porsche day.

Thank you for the help everyone!

I've actually decided against both.

I ended up booking the Javelin day at Anglesey. We've always wanted to climb Snowdon so we will do that on the Sunday, stay over in a hotel and then go to the Anglesey track on Monday so he can drive his heart out. It looks quite picturesque on the cliff with the mountains in the background.

Thanks again!

Anglesey is fantastic, good choice. Borrow or hire a helmet for yourself too, and get booked on as a passenger.
