noisy fuel pump on taimar essex v6

Have had a annoying noise from engine bay finaly traced it to the mechanical fuel pump, is there a way to quiete them down as dont realy want to go electric.any advise appreciated

Very unlikley that it is the fuel pump. Chances are the either the fibre timing gear thats been replaced with a steel one or the fibre one is on its way out, I would check before using the car any more if it is the fibre timing gear and it let's go it's good bye engine or at the very least you will get a big bill.

At the pump side there is (should be) a teflon-like seal/silencer (?) around the lever-arm plus some have a teflon insert (anti-wear) at the tip. You want to check if these are still present/intact (so pump out......)

If they are not present, they will be in the timing cover space, you want to get it/them out !

Its definatly the pump as i Started and ran the engine to fIll carb then took pump off started engine and noise had gone. Did not see any teflon on end of pump arm so it will be spanners out

Only numbers on pump is 300 9- g theres no spacer on engine block only paper gasket. No name on pump

Adrian when i took the pump off the aRm had plenty of engine oil on it. The noise did sound like noisy timing gears but recently it sounded like a chuffing noise so i looked at the pump.
