Does anyone with solid lifters and adjustable pushrods or adjustable rockers have the order for setting the clearances

I tend to use the "inlet just closed exhaust should be seated, exhaust just opening inlet should be seated" method as its easier to work down the banks pot/pot, just remember outside is exhaust and you can feel the rocker with a finger as you turn the crank.

Biggest tip though when setting is to keep finger pressure on the rocker arm over the pushrod ~ you'd be surprised how much difference that makes to the feeler gauge adjustment wink

If you have an engine where you don't know the firing order the way to go is to get your first valve on peak lift, then rotate the engine one full turn to put it directly opposite leak lift. It guarantees you're on the base circle .. then repeat for all the other valves. You don't need to know the firing order this way, you just have to make a note to make sure you've adjusted all of the valves. There's more engine turning required because you're not doing it in firing order. but it is a reliable method.

^ Its my preferred method but like you say its slow and you dont want to be doing it to often on a V8 16 valves and all headache it use to be easy with push-rod engines with a dizzy I just used the rotor arm index this at the rocker you want to adjust at full lift then rotate engine until the rotor arm has rotated 180 degrees then you adjust that valve easy wink I even have my old Ford reverse light switch with pig tails that I use to energize the starter with to stop all that rocking the car in gear and trying to reach the crank pulley bolt (redundant on the TVR though) wink four cylinder Fords could be done with the plugs out (as you should anyways) and using your thumb to over tension the fan belt you could then use the alternator fan blade to rotate the engine with your hands smokin ..... but stop Im getting all misty now frown your not in the motor that often so do them right one at a time rather than multiples IMO always worked for me.
