I just thought I'd share this, mainly so that Eccles, and the C-man could share a little love for how British Police deal with knife wheeling thugs. So, guys... What say you?

Fair one to the camera guy. To my relatively untrained eye, why didn't the other one get behind him (as he was clearly focused on the camera guy) then just hoof fk out of him?
I'm guessing that the female was thinking that if she got close enough behind him, he would just swing round and catch her in the face. He looked wild enough for that to be a very real possibility. What's right with British Cops?
I suspect a police trainer may have once suggested to a trainee that if someone comes at them with a knife that they make distance and not walk towards the attacker.
It would therefore seem that running away and waiting for the officers with the taser and/or gun to arrive would be an acceptable approach and within guidelines.
Both officers put themselves in harm's way to speedily resolve a risky and potentially dangerous situation.
The female officer couldn't pepper spray the knife wielding member of the public while she was behind him and if she had deployed the pepper spray while stood the other side of the chap with the knife her colleague would have been pepper sprayed as well as the lens of the body worn video camera.
'Police could you?'
I'd have probably used a swear word when telling him to put the knife down.
If I had a Taser I'd have zapped him as soon as he was on the grass.
It's like a lot of dashcam footage, we don't have the context or background.
That was a bit suicide by cop like, in that the chap wanted to be arrested and go back inside?

Since when has a lack of context and background stopped you jumping to a conclusion?Cat

You didn't spot my previous post in this thread where I alluded to a demarcation between bad apples from others that wear the police uniform or are employed by police forces?
I saw your previous post but it has no bearing on the point I was making. I find it deeply ironic that a post appears showing officers apparently dealing with a difficult, dangerous situation in an appropriate and proportionate manner and you suddenly think that the video doesn't provide sufficient context and background. Yet when a video appears to show the police in a bad light you are more than happy to draw conclusions from it despite the lack of context and background.

PAVA and batons are a totally unsuitable for a knife threat like that. It was well dealt with.
CatQuite.
Arguably withdrawing from the entire thing as soon as the knife was seen would have been the best option, but we don't know enough about the circumstances to make that judgement.

It takes very little time to turn around and face the other officer. The risk of getting it wrong is very high. Distance was the safest option there. Arguably withdrawing from the entire thing as soon as the knife was seen would have been the best option, but we don't know enough about the circumstances to make that judgement.
Speaks volumes I think that had that been in America the guy would've been shot, yet over here we expect the Police to risk their lives to deal with it.
Not saying I support arming the Police before the peanut gallery chips in, but that no one would choose to put themselves in that kind of danger ordinarily, but we just expect it of the Police.

Well done to the officer. Despite my dislike/hatered of the UK police corporation I realise that there are many good individual coppers (not Meerkat3). My dislike is not for individual cops but for the gang mentality and thevthin blue line which protects the bad apples.
I have praised officers in the UK on several occassions e.g Armed response to Lee Rigbys killers. Police in the UK are a million times better than their US counterparts when it comes to preserving life.
Having said that, any officer would have been well within his rights to shoot this lunatic dead.
