I have an urge to own a CL and the current favourite is a 2012 CL63 AMG

Big money but way down from the new price of £130,000

Very tempted as I see it as a thing of beauty

But a big thing of beauty .............

CLS 63 AMG ? E63 AMG - looks very boring to me !

SL63 AMG ?

Any other thoughts

What are we talking £40K, if you can afford it why not, there not that big.

Drive one and see if you like it.

As much as I like the SL63 your choice seems to go from one extreme to the other. I really like the CL63 but I consider it a barge I have a barge as a complete contrast and drive to the SL although when my VW Phaeton is up for replacement the CL 63 will be up there amongst a group of cars I'll try within a proposed budget.
Last Sunday I spent about three hours driving an SL63 at MB World gradually right up to its limit of handling on a very wet day around the two circuits they have there. My previous car was a very high spec Boxster S which had a precision in its handling that very few cars have. If I hadn't chosen the SL 63 before the MB world experience I certainly would have afterwards, considering how wet it was and the two circuits are designed to replicate twisty A roads the limits of the SL63 are surprisingly very high indeed.
Really with the CL63 N/A model circa 2008 and the same model SL being such relative bargains if you can afford to buy and run both fill your boots as they say.

If you want a refined car then the CL is the only one to look at.

Excellent news, I'll be interested to see what you get MPG wise.

I'm lucky to have a GT3 Porsche + a 9934S along with a lovely 2006 SL500
The idea of the CL63 is to retain the kick in the backside feel but have the comfort of the SL
Annoyingly the SL is beginning to give me problems with the electrics so will probably sell to make way for the CL
Sadly the GT3 makes every other porsche a non starter as an option for another car
I struggle to think of options and the CL just feels like an experience I want to have

My Dads on his 2nd CL63 AMG he now has the BiTurbo I have to say they are great cars & handle better than you and others expect, I must admit I have an itch for one these after doing a fair few miles in this & having a late SL55 the CL is the better car. Go for it

It might be worth checking out if a visit to MB World is within sensible driving distance from you because you may be able to book an 'Experience' in one and that will give you a better insight into the car than any test drive from a dealer will give. I would also say it's worth every pound that it costs.
