One of my friends agreed to buy this last night but upon checking the frame number on HPI it's come back as an outstanding stolen bike http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321818711428 I am afraid that I don't know the original registration number yet.

Apparently it was reported as stolen last September and he has reported it to the Police.

before whetstone meets pitchfork... the seller could have purchased it in good faith
Then more fool him,as he has no legal ownership and no lawful right to sell it.

EDIT: why does it have to be a "heads up" can't you just "reach out" or some other management speak bks

He accepted an offer of less which is why the alarm bells were ringing.

Alarm bells ring...

I hope the owner will be reunited with this one. Has your friend made a report to the police? If not, make sure he does so. I'd be happy to pass on whatever details I can direct to Avon and Somerset, but ideally it's best coming firsthand. Does he have a copy of the VIN or the HPI report flagging it as stolen? If the police are alerted in time, they can get on the trail whilst it's still hot.

I like that bit of Blue sky thinking but going forward maybe we should empty the think tank and have an idea shower at the next team brief.

Don't jump to conclusions guys, this maybe a dodgy bike OR it may have NOT been removed from the stolen register having been recovered as sometimes happens.

Given the no answer and listing end it may very well be dodgy!!!

  • Update** The seller has been visited by the police and the bike seized. I forgot to mention that when my mate told him it was stolen he said he was going to sell it anyway and had someone else interested, that's why my mate left the feedback to try and warn people off. Still trying to get the reg.

Superb!
You need to be a special kind of chop to try and openly sell a hot bike or maybe your mate is actually one of the few who would bother to check the VIN.
Either way, nice to hear the Police taking the effort to chase this down rather than just issue a crime reference number wink

Maybe you should run it up the flag pole and see who salutes it?
