The only way to make progress on the m56 in the mornings, lane one.The truckers secret! Beats 20 miles of the Audi in front comfort braking, because he/she is 15mm from the car in front...☺

Depends what mood I'm in...

Sometimes I'll just plod along in L1 and get on with it. Sometimes I'll pull into L2 flash them, and as I get closer increase the frequency of said flashes, usually works, then pull back into L1. Sometimes I speed up to unknown leptons into L2, pull into L3 and then pull back across them missing their bumper by inches and back into L1.

Enjoy lol

Great fun

More commonly known as orbiting hehe

Usually get bored after 3 laps though. Must try harder smile
Orbiting just helps to validate their driving in the ML though.

(These are not the correct words but it's early and you know what I mean.)

if you don't perform a pit maneuver on every MLM you come across you are not a real PH

On my daily journey down the A14 and occasional trip up the A1 I have taken to only using the "secret" lane, the one concealed on the very left of the carriageway that most people seem to be completely ignorant of.

I have also noticed an increase in people who don't seem to notice when the road is less busy than normal and continue to drive at 40-50 despite the complete lack of traffic in front of them.

Generally just pass them on the left. It's not illegal as it's not a manoeuvre - it's just continuing in your current lane. It would be illegal if you were already in the 2nd lane and moved left to pass, then moved back to the 2nd lane for whatever reason.

Stick to lane 1 if I'm already there, it's not like they'll move into lane 1, they're driving too fast for lane 1 and not paying enough attention to realise I'm there. If I'm already in lane 2, I'll either flash my lights at them as I close up which occasionally works and if it doesn't, I'll overtake on whichever side is less busy. If I'm already in lane 3, I'll overtake in lane 3, stick my hand out the top (convertible) and point as I move to lane 1 once past them (rarely has any effect) tongue out

I'd love for it to be legal to overtake on both sides but unfortunately, I don't think the general standard of driving is good enough for it.

Most of the time just do nothing, there are more important things in life.

But if I'm feeling peeved off them I under/overtake them and then cut right in front of them. Works especially well when it's wet.

Lane 1 all the way. If they're thick enough to be an MLM, they're too thick to realise the subtlety of any sort of lesson teaching.

Had a good one this morning. Moron in a silver Passat sat in lane 2 nothing in front and nothing in lane 1 for a reasonable distance. I carry on in lane 1, draw almost level then pull out behind to try to persuade the Passat to pull in. Idiot driver decides to give me the coffee beans and stay in lane 2. Several gaps appear in lane 1 and I move in then out again when necessary. Passat determinedly sticks to lane 2. Queue much frothing at the mouth as I sail past in lane 1 when lane 2 decide to brake for no reason and lane 1 doesn't 😃

For me it depends how busy the motorway / dual carriage way is.

If traffic is very light I'll continue and under take them in the inside lane, normally with a burst of acceleration to get past them before they can react and try and be a .

On motorways if traffic is heavier but the inside lane is empty I'll move to the outside lane, overtake and then immediately pull back into the inside lane.

Both approaches normally result in the offending driver realising they are a knob and they pull into the inside lane.

Luckily I haven't had to deal with motorways on a regular basis for close to 6 years now, bliss!

Lucky you. Round here they just carry on completely oblivious to the chaos in their wake.

This sounds like a fantastic game. Usually I just undertake, look across and shake my head and occasionally gesture a little like this - nono(on a bike). But orbiting sounds far more fun.

What amazes me is the amount of HGVs sitting in lane 2 at night lately, it's roughly half the heavy traffic doing this too.
And in lane 3 on 4 lane sections.
This morning I followed an HGV along lane 3 (of 3) A1 through Borehamwood. It's dual carriageway rather than motorway but surely that's not right?

I usually match their speed in lane 1 but hang back a car length.

Continue in lane 1
It's only undertaking if you move from lane 2 into lane 1 then back out again.

If you are just maintaining your speed in lane 1 it's fine (iirc)

I've tried various methods over the years and now I either move to lane 3 to pass or continue on the left hand side of lane 1, whichever I think is safer at the time depending on other traffic, how I've observed the MLM up till then etc. What I never do anymore is flash them, that usually just incites road rage.

There is one thing I get occasionally though - when I overtake the MLM they immediately speed up and pass me to save face (I always do a steady speed the whole time on the motorway). They then either disappear off into the distance at 85-90mph or slow again so I'm forced to pass them again. On a recent trip to Devon with my wife this happened three times and the MLM was getting very angry with me, but I hadn't got a clue how to avoid it - after my pass he would accelerate up to 90mph, then slow back to 60mph in the middle lane until I caught and passed him again, and repeat.. Has anyone else had this happen?
