Hinds Head, service can be a bit hit and miss from what I've heard.

Royal Oak, gone downhill since Dominic left and set up at The Beehive

What about Cadessi's in Bray?

I had terrible service in Caldesi that ruined a meal with family. Food was good though!

The Hinds Head is alright, scotch egg is a winner as a bar snack :-)

The Waterside Inn is a fantastic experience if you are pushing the boat out (chortle chortle (they have a boat)) particularly on a nice sunny evening sat by the river. Give me a wave if you go as I live next door :-)

Crooked Billet was less than perfect last time we went (abt. 3 weeks ago) and service hit & miss e.g. how can you place a bread basket on the table with only 3 pieces of bread in it when there are 5 people at the table? Trivial maybe but it's the little things that count/niggle.
Royal Oak had some historic puds.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe.

Have visited all three, over the last year.

Royal Oak - pleasant, but couldn't really see what all the fuss was about. Food and service was fine, but not spectacular.

Crooked Billet - it's been a while, so may not be relevant. Good atmosphere and very good food. The most "pubby" of the three. Live music nights are good.

Hinds Head - wonderful food. Really enjoyed it. Casual dining, relaxed, but still felt "special".

Which is the best? For me, I would say the Hinds Head.

BYTVR - have you had an evening meal at Jacksons? It's fairly local to me too but we haven't had a chance to try it yet. We have had lunch there and their coffee & cake is lovely. The evening menu looks very good so is it worth the price?

Another vote for the Hinds Head, eaten there twice in the last few months, excellent both times smile
