Some amazing photos but im sure that's not 45,000 tons
Yes some great pictures and some very thought provoking but 450 T would be closer to the mark.

I calculated if it was 50' dia x 24' long and 4" plate it would be around 280T, brave buggers standing in it though.

1969, first man on the moon (probably)
Well it's certainly a man on the moon (conspiracy theorists can go swivel), but it's not the first man. There are only two photos of Armstrong on the moon and that isn't either of them. If it was taken in 1969 then it's either Buzz Aldrin, Pete Conrad or Alan Bean.

Does any one think the picture of the woman with the children for sale is genuine or a joke like you sometimes see people putting their children up for sale on Ebay, 'for a laugh'? I know things were tough in the Depression, but still.............

I have my doubts about the veracity of some of the captions - if not the pictures. For example, this is NOT Concorde in the 1970s. This Concorde is painted in the "Landor" British Airways scheme which was introduced in 1984. Also, the way the aircraft is posed makes me think that it has been superimposed over a background shot of the New York skyline.

It's Buzz setting up the seismic activity experiment.

Bloody hell - who wrote those captions?

The Wright Brothers first powered flight was in 1903 - not 1902.

That sounds better. 45,000 tons would be a couple of warships smile

They set off in 1902, but it took till 1903 to go the distance.

Yes, I meant to type 1980s. It's a real photo of G-BOAG flying over Manhattan in 1986.

The photographer is Adrian Meredith.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure if the captions were off the website where the pictures were being obtained from or whether the poster was making up his own captions.

They're from my personal collection. Do you have anything to contribute besides pedantry? I mean, I'll give you Concorde, but who cares if the Wright brothers' first flight took place in 1902 or 03? In the context of this thread it's hardly that important.
