SD card died whilst taking pictures, recovery options?

Ok, the situation was that I was taking lots of pictures on the ranges with the Cadets, getting some lovely shots with the D750 and then the card (first time out with it) came up Err, did the usual, camera off/on, card out/back in etc but to no avail.
I have since tried several recovery programs (recuva, easeUS data recovery, ZAR X etc) but all show the same thing, basically I think im out out luck as when you put the card in the reader it just says "do you wish to format card in x".

Next time I shall shoot with 2 cards in the camera but options on what I can still try??

Very bad news when this happens especially when you have some great pics on the card!

Have you tried www.isobuster.com which has been around for quite some time now and has been steadily improved over the years to keep up with technology.

I used it years ago to recover images off a CD that hadn't been closed so the contents couldn't be seen on any other PC.

Good luck with the recovery and let us know if you are successful or not.

Are you saying that you are unable to progress with recuva et al BECAUSE you're asked to format the card, thus preventing you from running the recovery programs correctly?

Didnt format the card after it died on me so as it was straight out of the camera.

Will give all those bits of software a shot, wont be till the weekend though so will have the details on how it went then

Oh the card was a PNY turbo 32gb, was going to use it with the D7100 as i usually use the elete cards on the D750 but ran out so...

Ideally you'd read an image of the card to a file and work the recovery on the file.
Sometimes this isn't possible because the OS refuses to acknowledge the device until you format it.

If you've got nothing to lose then you can perform a quick format (and most certainly not a full formawt) of the card just to get over that hurdle. Then use something like win32diskimager to produce an image of the card and then have recuva work on the image whilst leaving the original card intact. If that's not possible and it's last chance saloon, you can point recuva at the quick formatted card and let it have a go.
