Hypothetical situation;

You are on a long straight road only wide enough for one vehicle in each direction. Ahead, there is an obstruction on the other side of the road such as a bus picking up a long line of passengers. As you approach from some distance away, you can see a line of cars starting to overtake the bus as expected. However, as you get closer, the oncoming cars are still passing the bus and now you are almost level with the bus and they are still coming, blocking your side of the road so you have to stop.

If the oncoming cars just keep coming, what do you do?

This happens a fair bit in my line of work - I just creep into the "zone" and let it be known that someone will need to stop before they get a Foden badge imprint on the front of their Dacia Sandero.

Same story when you are approaching a traffic calming bottleneck and the oncoming cars have this sign

So its your right of way but one car comes through and makes you stop, then a second, then a third.

Has anyone ever just got frustrated and driven forward to make them reverse?

Depends on the relative traffic flows... If there's a long line of traffic queuing in the other direction and very little in my direction I'd stop and flash as many of them through as possible in order to keep things moving. Amazing how often I see gridlock in a 30 near my current work, where two cars are parked on opposite sides of the road 100 yards apart and nobody likes to give way in either direction.

If im in the sacrificial corsa I will determinedly assert my priority.
If im in the shiny car I will timidly wait until its clear

I just chill; there's no point in getting frustrated by people who are inconsiderate and ignorant.

^^^^^^^^ This. What's the point of getting frustrated, the bus will soon move on and you'll be able to proceed. Life's too short to retaliate at every little incident.

Well no
Those can be a real nuisance and the best traffic frustation measures dont have them,
- if theyre already committed you should wait for them to come through.
You get people doing this where theres a long line line of parked cars.
Say there's a line on you're side.
You begin passing them as you can see its clear ( and otherwise youd be there all day)
someone coming the other thinks 'I have right of way' tries to block everyone coming through as if they have a vapourising ray gun. The courteous thing to do would be to wait for the bunch to come through then take their turn going the other way.

Ease off and give due care for other road users smile

Or confuse them all as they come through by thanking them with a wave.

+2.

Accepting that there are a lot of selfish ignorant people on the road and being fairly sanguine about it makes driving much less stressful.

That said, having to drive halfway up a verge to let a 4x4 through that doesn't want to get their tyres dirty does irritate me at the best of times.

Well it did for me biggrin

I was slowly overtaking about 15/20 parked cars got to last one and a large woman with fag hanging out of gob stopped me going any further in her focus . I waited for a few minutes until it was clear she wasn't going to reverse the ten feet needed to let me get on my way. So I started the slow reverse back over the line of cars until she could pass, to which she she thanked me by shouting that I couldn't f**king drive, priceless driving

A few years ago some temporary traffic lights were set up on the A56 just north of Manchester city centre. I got stuck in a horrendous traffic queue heading out of the city there and, when I got to front of the queue, found out why. Drivers heading into the centre were simply ignoring the red light at their end and continued to drive through - allowing only one car at a time to pass in the opposite direction. I sat for one turn of the lights, and the next time they went green I put my foot down in the KA that I used to have and just drove on.

There were a few panicked faces coming towards me as they realized I was intent on squeezing through. Once at the other side I stopped briefly to make sure the light were working properly - they were, it was just the old issue of one squeezing through on 'red', then the next thinking "Sod it, I'll go too," and so on. Crazy.

Unfortunately there is always form idiot who thinks that the rules of the road don't apply to them and everyone else is there to move out of the way of them regardless if they are on the wrong side of the road or not.

I seem to come across them most days - along with refusal to give way to traffic from the right on a roundabout. Make for an interesting journey

A simple wave with the hand to say thank you or sorry would help a lot but this seems to have died out a lot as well. And its just plain stare ahead or start giving the abuse out !

I had this happen on Thursday evening. Except is was a line of parked cars on the opposite side of the road, it was my right of way and I was already alongside the obstruction, when some cock socket in a crappy old Polo decided the highway code didn't apply and came through anyway... Nearly taking out my wing mirror in the process, dislodge the glass.

Predictably he didn't stop, so I turned around to tell him how much of a bell end he was. According to him, it was my fault because I was too far away from the kerb...

banghead

Currently deciding whether or not to report him for falling to stop.

hehe

Hold back until they stop coming through, and then I continue. It's not how it should work, but what else can one do?

Maybe best to have another look at the HC wink
