2009 - 2011 Cooper JCW

I am just starting to think about a JCW (hardtop) towards the end of the year, had a nice Cooper S (2004) a few years ago.

Was thinking about buying private and not through a dealer , having read all the usual stuff on timing issues is this risky and what do i need to look out for , ideally would be looking at a model with around 35k on clock ?
