My Girlfriend and I just purchased our first new house together. We were automatically put with BG and given a smart meter. Since having plugged the smart meter in we notice everyday at midnight we spend £0.31. Our daily spend is roughly £0.70-£1.20 dependant on if we are in or at work. So we are basically spending 1/2 -1/4 of our daily spend at midnight, when we are asleep.

Has anyone got any suggestions for what it could be or how to find out?

Neither of us have ever owned, or rented our own house before so haven't had to deal with bills/stuff like that.

That sounds about the amount your standing charge would be per day.

I didn't know smart meters added it though.

Some do, some don't. It depends how the supplier has set their system up. Some will be exclusive of VAT too, as that can/should only be applied at point of sale........
