Right, just can't get these out of my head!
Having just sold my S6 V10, I dismissed the idea of an S8 as it would be too similar to the S6.
I want my next car to be something special a bit of an event, wondering if the S8 would be so different?
Considering FFRR Supercharged and CLS 55/63, but not really smitten with the Merc.

I've not driven the S6, so I can't really compare, but I've been a passenger in a C6 A6 a few times. In my opinion, the D3 isn't a massively different car - the MMI system will be very familiar, and I'm sure the engine characteristics will be largely the same. It's a larger car, but doesn't feel huge when you're driving it. I had an S-Max previously, and while the S8 is longer, and only slightly narrower, it feels slightly smaller.
What is it about the S8 that turns you on specifically? If it's the thought of a muscular, super-luxurious car then maybe you should consider the W12. They're often cheaper than the S8, and better specced. if you are not a fan of chintzy-wood trim, a few people over on the A8Parts forum have replaced the wood trim with the S8 carbon, and one guy had the wood wrapped in carbon, it looked amazing.

Can't help with the S6 vs S8 debate. But as for an S8 vs a SC FFRR, they are very different.
You look at the RR's spec on paper and think "Hmm. 7.1 0-60. Not bad. I could probably live with that". And while it will probably do0-60 in 7 and change, I can hardly think of a time when I've felt the need to try that. It's the sort of car that you get, and then wonder why you pored over performance stats. It's massively calming and stress free to drive, and tends to make you (me) waft around rather than press on.
The S8, on the other hand, has a bit of a Jekyl & Hyde character. The V10 (as you know from the S6) needs to be revved but at low revs is relatively docile. So in the S8 I tend to drive fairly calmly aroud town, but once on a clear A (or even B) road, pressing on usig the paddles is quite satisfying - and something you'd never even want to do in RR.
On motorways both a pretty top drawer, although I'd say the RR is slightly nosier and obv has a fair bit less poke if you floor it. The RR will probably deliver you feeling slightly fresher though.
I like them both immensely, but they are very different offerings. I fid myself getting out of each thinking "now I remember why I like driving that", and it's for different reasons with each car.

Thanks for the great insight. That's just the sort of thing I need to read...both are bloody great! 😀You look at the RR's spec on paper and think "Hmm. 7.1 0-60. Not bad. The FFRR appeals for a bit of waft and luxury, the wife has a Q7 as the family wagon, so she doesn't want another big car, but I've always fancied these! I think the 4.4 petrol V8 would suffice, but I just fancy at wee bit extra.
The S8 has always been on the radar, but got it stuck in my head I must have B&O to maximise the "event".
The V10 is a gorgeous engine in my mind, silky smooth, extremely powerful when you nail it, and a nice note.
Best keep checking eBay and autotrader, will probably be a case of what pops up 1st.
Ps some of the S8's I have seen previously at the lower end of the market have been rough as dogs. The same with the S6's if what the buyer of mine experienced is anything to go from.
I was going to look at an S8 up here in Warrington. 2008 facelift at £13450 on Autotrader. It needs a service ad a bit of bodywork doing but if you got it at the right price, that's a cheap car.

I just missed out on a supercharged, was over my budget, but was facelift with 07MY interior, so decided to push it, but sold the day I decided.
Back on to the S8 again though as can't find another suitable FFRR
Spoke to the owner last night he said it was mint! Mind you, I'd already convinced myself against the ceramics by the end of the conversation.
Still got this thing about S8 you know, and to get a decent FFRR is going to be £15k plus, which I don't want to spend right now, so will maybe make that the next toy.

Fair enough well it sounds like the S8 is the car you should buy it ticks your boxes.

Spec wise:
Daytona grey seems to be the colour to go for. Black is a bit sombre. I've seen one in a Sprint Blue (or similar) which was stunning though.
Two tone leather interiors divide opinion. I think they look like sitting on a panda.
Facelift around late 07 brought some exterior changes and improved sound proofing. The most obvious exterior change is the rear lights, which can be retrofitted to a pre FL car as a straight swap.
B&O - yes.
Ceramics - nice idea but > 2k per corner to replace outs me off. Even if they are supposed to last forever.
Adaptive cruise control - was never interested in this but having been throughout the M1’s extensive 50mph ave speed network recently I can see the attraction.
Heated rear seats and four zone climate control were must haves for me. Ditto TV. And an iPod/iphone interface (AMI or Audi music interface as it is called. There is a phone cradle which I have adapted to take an iphone via a cable, but that gives you phone functionality rather than music. Music requires a second cable).
OEM wheels can be had from alloywheelsdirect.net if you don't like the ones on the car.
Getting hold of PDFs of the brochures is well worth it as most dealers advertise many standard features as extras as they don't know better. PM me if you can't find them - there are ones for 2006, 2008 and 2009 from memory.
Things that die:
The TPMS sensors. The Audi ones are extortionate. eBay has some at £40 each which work fine.
The locking buttons on the door handles.
The motor that opens the boot lid (it will close fine but needs help to get it going to open).
The fingerprint reader is erratic, although most problems I have are after I've been swimming and my fingers are crinkly.

How did you get on? Funnily enough, I bought my RRS 4.2 s/c and took it home yesterday.
Need to get rid of all the black modifications the previous owner did. Got silver badges, grill, vents and wheels to go on. Bonus is that it's got a non res Quicksilver stainless steel exhaust and EBC drilled and grooved pads and discs on.

Looking at one tomorrow hopefully, see if they really still do it for me.
Not many around with B+O, so may have to compromise, despite always wanting that.
Agree on exterior colours and the 2 tone interior, not for me, but if the car and price was right, I would put up with it.
The standard Bose is pretty good, but the B&O is an event, and that's what you're looking for, right? Worth holding out for the right car, I think. Not many around with B+O, so may have to compromise, despite always wanting that.

Personally, I like the two-tone, and my car has it. Solid black looks a bit funereal. For exterior colours, mine is Light Silver, which means it blends in with all the rep-mobiles. I'd rather it were dark grey or black, it looks menacing in the right colour.

There's one at the Honda dealer in Crawley that's been a bit barried, but has B&O, if you wanted to try it and see if it lived up to expectations? Not many around with B+O, so may have to compromise, despite always wanting that.
