Evening folks, wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. I'm in the market for an S60 D5 and I've found one that fits the bill, however something doesn't add up. It's a 56 plate SE Lux and is advertised as a D5 although is badged as a 2.4D, my car check and other things bring it up as a "S60 Lux SE D A" rather than some other D5s I've checked that actually say D5 in the name. (Eg "S60 LUX SE D5 A") The issue is that it is coming up as having 185bhp and 174 co2 figure which are the stats for the euro 4 D5 engine rather than the 2.4D.

The trader is away at the moment and I can't get down to look at it until Monday so can't see what colour the engine cover is for any other clues. Just seemed a little strange, and if it was a 163bhp engine but registered as a 185 then insurance etc would be affected.

Just seeing if anyone has come across this before. Apologies if my explanation doesn't read well!

Unsure of how to put a hyperlink in but the car is on autotrader, 56 reg, 130,000 miles and just over 3k and blue.

http://tinyurl.com/q7tc5cm I presume?

Assuming from the badge at the back (and who would deliberately replace a 'D5' badge with a '2.4D' badge?) it's a 2.4D, not a D5. This means it delivers 163bhp as opposed to the Euro 4 D5 which was 185bhp.

The seller doesn't know his Volvos and the details in his listing are wrong. I'd trust the badge on the back of the car.

Check the VIN number to be sure. It will start YV1RS and if the next two digits are 69 it is a 2.4D 163ps and if they are 71 it is a D5 185ps.

There is no physical difference between the engines at all - so looking at it won't help. The difference is all in software.

Thanks for the responses, that was the car linked. Unfortunately a few other things didn't add up with it so I'll be giving that one a miss, the information on the vin no.s will come in handy when looking at others so much appreciated.
