I've long fancied an S2000 as an occasional sports car, but it seems that 6-7 months before I am likely to have the funds to buy one, the values have gone up significantly this year. Whereas £5K would get you a 75K miler last year, this year it will get you an early one with 100K miles or more on the clock and I've seen people asking for £10K plus for lower mileage 2005/6 onwards cars. So, do you think it no longer makes a canny buy and people like me have missed the boat?

I was checking them on auto trader recently before I bought MR2 roadster #3,and yes I saw they have jumped up a bit. As much as I like them for £8K I'd buy the lowest mileage/cleanest MR2 I could find and save £3K to turbo it.

Looking to sell mine in a month or so [Don't fancy trying to sell it with a broken roof, so have to wait for it to be replaced!], and it seems like prices have just firmed up. Obviously the sub 30k mile ones are up for crazy prices, but the 'useable' mileage range 70-100k on these for facelift pre-high tax ones like mine seem to have just gotten stuck at 7-10k depending on condition.

Think it was the same case around 18 months ago when I bought it. But then I was looking for a 5 grandish S2000 like you, and ended up with a 9 grand facelift 55 plate once I'd looked into it! Man maths at their finest smile

I've been looking for a while now and over the last few months have seen lots of accident repaired cars...to the point where I started looking at alternatives.

Bought up a 55 plate Moonrock 63k and 2 ownwers for £8250 at the weekend, so they are out there smile

I'm on the lookout too. I'm hoping the winter blues will soon strike and we'll see a drop in prices, as they're currently pretty strong, and most seem to need a new roof - common problem I guess and easily replaced.

If anyone is thinking of selling, let me know - after an early Facelift model, 04/05, not too worried about colour but don't want black (PITA to keep clean) happy with a reasonably high miler as long as it's been looked after. Budget c£7k

I recently had a new roof fitted [as above!] and the fitter said that he quite commonly sees the S2000 roof fail around the 10 year mark so you might be right there. Not sure Honda offer a roof replacement, or if so the price will be very high so think you'll see a mix of third party roof work too.

I'll be listing mine soon [Silver/Red, 55 plate, 91k miles] but likely around the £8-8.5k mark from a quick look at other prices in the south. But it has had a recent new roof + timing chain tensioner which are both common issues on these.

Depending on where you might live you might struggle to find one though with that criteria (Exactly the same criteria I had when I was looking for one, and I guess many others - Facelift but cheap road tax!), within 40 miles of Reading there's only three 05/55 reg S2000's, one is 'ladyboy blue' and the other two are north of £11k, guess having such a 'sweet spot' in the manufacturing is pushing prices up for those models as £500 VED is crazy money to most folk.

12 Oct on Wheeler dealers might just help steady winter prices.

Recently been thinking about getting one of these. There are a few AP1s fairly close to me, two of them are sub £5k on approx 100k miles. They look ok in the photos but I suspect that in the flesh it would be a different story. Is it possible to get a good one for around £4.5k to £6k?

UK cars are all AP1's. They are either AP1 pre-facelift (pre-2004) or AP1 post facelift.

AP2's were never imported into the UK.

Still fancy an S2000, but its gonna have to wait. I bought a cheap old MX-5 today for some winter fun ! I am waiting for a friend's husband to sell me his mint low mileage S2000 which may be next year, maybe not. I have first refusal :-)
