I've beat myself up about this time and time again, Why are prices just the same and never seem to be on the up like other marks of car?

Ferraris seem to have highs an lows, same with other italian brands.

The prices for classic Fords are just stupid, old Capris, Escorts, then there's the mustangs which seem to fetch stupid money for a 4 seater pony car,
so why is it that you don't see people snapping up Vipers when they come up for sale, especially when there are so few in the UK and Europe?

Classic late 60s camaros also fetch stupid moneys, yet you see early Viper RT/10s not really moving and the same with some FE Gen IIs

James's car has been for sale for years and the amount of work and moneys that car has had ploughed into it, Im amazed no one has bought it?

Same thing with les's car, a ton of work done and what seems like very little offers. Then there's Baz's car, probably the cleanest supercharged viper RT/10 in Europe.

I got asked on Monday Evening at the Ace Cafe, 'is the Viper a Supercar'? really! How do you answer a question like that frown
Interested to know your thoughts on this issue? It can't just be the LHD issue surely?

Now us Viper owners might be biased, so it would be good to hear from non Viper owners smile

Well all it takes is for Simone to ask £60k for a gen 2 then others follow suit. How do u think dealers push prices of Ferrari's up?

I've seen the mustang Camaros challengers ect advertised at high prices, but do they sell at that? I've seen some reappear months later reduced and still seem not to sell. The hike in italian and German motors I think is driven by speculaters as in the eighties when a lot of people got there fingers burnt, as for the escorts and capris probable due to the rise in historic rallying ect but saying that you can still pick up a H s Chevette for reasonable money go figure. As for the viper think it's the old yanks can't build sports car bks by people who's never driven one and probably couldn't ( not an auto). I picked my 95 rt very reasonable purely because the guy was cheesed off by all the how many miles to the gallon and can't drive them in the wet because they swap ends Herbert's who kept calling. I bought mine knowing it's not a blue chip investment second hand vipers have been the same price for years but it better than many cars in the same price bracket and turns more heads. The amount of people who wave me to overtake so they can hear it go past is a right laugh.

Not sure on this Nick, why have the same cars been for sale for so long? The Buyers don't seem to be there?

Are the cars ur seeing that have been up for ages very modified? In my experience people shy away from a modified car for many reasons, it's a small following in the uk for American cars even smaller for vipers. For a outsider who knows nothing about them and is looking to own for the first time I imagine they would prefer a car as stock as possible. If more people would actually get behind the wheel of them then we might see more on the road. The other gearing factor is lhd it simply puts people off. There is an argument for its not too different and easy to live with but the simple truth is a large majority won't ever buy a car with the steering wheel on the left.

Personally I think its because they are such a niche market, a lot of people are to scared to own one for starters, they are intimidated by them, as you know I was very very close to buying recently but in the end I went for the safe bet at the moment as I wanted my money to be safe, well as safe as it can be in a car, thus I bought a C2 Vette, the reason for me was the Vettes are rising so felt it was a good investment, the vipers I still think are going down very slightly, BUT I predict it will be in the next 5 years where they will start to be an appreciating classic and the values will start to rise, but sadly I think it will be the original stock cars that will rise the most, The viper is still my dream car and I will own one, the method in my madness was to own a C2 vette now before they get out of reach for me, then in a few years I can sell it and the money I make will go a long way towards buying a Viper, the buzz I got from the viper was awesome and the C2 doesn't come close, but im trying to b sensible, for now anyway, cant wait to be the owner of a Viper ! that's the final box ticked in my dream car wants, got my C3 vette 19 years ago and that was my no1 dream car and I will never sell it, Viper is my no2 dream car, the C2 just crept in there as its so dam pretty to look at.

Some are very modified, some are stock FEs There seems to be a few about at the moment!

Trans-ams, have gone way up in Value, (Left Hand Drive) Many Mustangs are LHD, so I don't buy the its because its LHD reasoning, there must be something more to it?
TVR Sagaris's have also rocketed up over the years.

Some interesting and valid points here. US cars are generally either loved or hated by car fans. Even the ones that love them probably wouldn't consider buying one though, steering on the wrong side, poor handling, too thirsty etc etc

I've been a US car fan since I was a kid, over the last 27 years I've owned 5 Mustangs, and for the last 20 years Vipers were my dream car. I would have been a bit scared/wary of buying a modified car, so I plan to keep mine as standard as possible.

At least prices are holding steady, but the market is very limited. It will take a few years but our time will come, starting with gen 1 and 2's in the States, then UK values will follow suit.

Do we really want prices to rocket though? There maybe a time when I have to sell mine, only then to be priced out of the market when I want to get another.

If you're in the Market for a two seater sports car and fancy something American its either a Corvette or Viper, we all know Vipers handle, they held the ring record for a while and have been a major track car since first creation.
Is someone who is looking at a Corvette comparing fuel economy? I will admit, you could leave a late model C4 / C5 in the Street and people would walk past it, I don't think you could do that with the Viper!

Vipers seem to me to be stupid cheap at the moment and it's one hell of a car for the money! Fuel is Low at the moment too.

I measure it in 'Smiles per Gallon'......And I've had a hell of a lot biggrin

There are so many variables in this debate it will be difficult to list them all! I think Vipers appeal to only a very small and special group of people. Yet everywhere I drive in mine, out come the cameras, the finger pointing and the looks from girls! Even the Ferrari owners can't help but have a gander. Most people I ask about Vipers love them but choose to never own one. On the other hand there a handful of lads I've spoken to that say it's one of their dream cars. So go figure.

I've found it surprisingly reliable for a supercar. Even more so than my Yankee lightning I had prior. So I guess the maintenance aspect can't really apply. Especially when you can pick up a new clutch for one of these for less than £300 (standard...nothing fancy I may add haha). The shape and sound of this car is amazing and nothing like anything else. It grabbed my attention and lever let go. There has to be a few guys out there that share this same thought.

Value is only what a person is willing to pay. I think Vipers will always hold there value, the problem is, there do not have the flash stigma attached to it, like Ferraris or Lambos. If someone wants to show off their wealth...that's what they buy. I've never seen the appeal from them, I know they look nice but I just don't get fuzzy like I do when I see a Viper or any type of sexy muscle car!

So I don't see vipers exactly increasing in value any time soon. But we shouldn't sell ourselves short. Vipers are special, iconic, fast, sexy and amazing. There will always be guys and girls that want them but much less than the Italian offerings. I also think social awareness and media are to blame at least in helping the Italian cars get a footing. I can't remember the last Film or Tv program that had a Viper as the main feature.

I find it funny when people talk about fuel economy with American cars. Are they being serious? And VIPERS!? Smiles to the gallon baby.

The whole left had drive thing is beyond me. It doesn't matter what side of the road I'm on. It shouldn't make any difference except when overtaking surely? The pros seriously outweigh the cons to owning a car like this.

Who knows...give it another 10 years, things might shoot up. Especially if more gen II's keep getting smashed up. I won't have mine long enough to see it though redface(

Mark was asked is the viper a super car? What defines a super car/hypercar price, performance rarity, is the Audi rs6 avant a super car or quick estate car. The viper is what it is a factory developed v10 6sp rwd two seat sports car that doesn't cost the earth to own or maintain, has performance to burn has its quirks like most performance cars. I think most people if asked what is a super car would say Maclaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, zonda ect. Do I think the viper is a super car yes it's quite rare to see one on the UK roads it's makes all the right noises and its looks are very different especially gen1s from most other cars on the rd. The last film I sore with a viper was a Jonny deep film about a satanic book, on TV was Jason Plato slagging one off on fifth gear so they don't get much coverage on UK media mores the pity.

Was it a trader? I get offers like this all the time when I try sell a car. When I tried to sell my shelby I got offered less than half, a trader offered me 25k for my viper last year as a part ex for a lambo I was buying. I told them to give me a serious offer and I'd consider talking to them, try laugh it off mate and remmber the world is full of chancers.

there are some total pricks out there,I advertised my bmw M6 last year for £58K and had various non franchise dealers offer me between 40 to 46 saying I would not get any higher offers, 2 weeks later I sold the car to a main BMW dealer for 56K and they even collected it from Scotland.
I doubt anyone will find a better spec car than yours Baz.

As a very recent purchaser, LHD didn't concern me, but I certainly wasn't interested in looking at cars with modifications.....

Interesting, OK when you say modifications, What were you NOT interested in?
Different wheels? Exhaust system, Headers? Radio?
