Firstly, the car isn't a sport. Is it still designated EP2?

Potentially going to view at the weekend on behalf of my girlfriend. After a bit of digging, it seems that the gearboxes, in particular, the bearings, are a fairly major weak point on these.

Mileage, for reference is circa 68k.

Is this actually the case? ie a "when" not "if" scenario?

Sounds like an EP2, yes, is it a 4 stud one (SE perhaps? Leather seats?)

Gearboxes are a bit of a weak point, but I wouldn't say it was a case of when not if. Got mine on 90k and ran until 110k-ish (Not massively long I know) and it was fine, had some noises from the release bearing but nothing major to be concerned about. Other than that the car had no other issues, absolutely flawless in my ownership - They are good cars.

It's the 1.6 VTEC SE and is a 4 stud.

circa 68k with full Honda service history. I'm worrying needlessly, aren't I?

I think the later models are better than the earlier ones, and it sounds like a well maintained car anyway so see what it is like.

If you haven't driven one before then the gear stick position will be unusual but will soon become second nature and brilliant to use. smile
