Every now and again I stumble upon a car I have never heard of. Last time it was the De Tomaso Mangusta, this time its the Maserati Boomerang. Looks a fun bit of kit.

Stunning car, seen it in the flesh a few times. It was Giugiaro's precursor to the Lotus Esprit.

On the same lines have you seen the Alfa Carabo, my favourite 'wedge' design;

Yes the Boomerang was at Techno Classica Essen this year:

A riot of angles!

The Carabo is very cool too, it was shown at the Festival of Speed a few years back (no photo, sorry)

Wow, love it. Though from the title you meant the 3200? with boomerang lights. As nice as they are, this makes me wiggle.

Funny enough the other prototype that I would like to own is the Maserati Birdcage.

Clearly from the same Giugiaro pen as Lotus Esprit and BMW M1.

Mind you.... he did the Morris Marina re-hash as well! Morris Ital yikes

Always loved the exterior of the Boomerang, the interior not so much biggrin

One that was very popular when I was young but may well have disappeared in the mists of time by now is the Testarossa based Mythos. Always loved this car. I'll post some pics later because it's not happening on my mobile...

Another mostly unknown car I've always liked is Straman's Testarossa convertible. Always thought that looked lovely.

I'm pretty sure I remember having a Matchbox model of this car (or something very similar).

Another one from the same era and of a similar style is the Lancia Stratos HF Zero (always reminds me of the Pink Panther cartoons for some reason).

I wish this was made. Why don't Maserati make another supercar? Wasn't the MC12 very closely related to the Enzo? I always thought it was the better looking car..

Hey, I've got that pack of Top Trumps too! "Prototypes".
Loads of good (and not so good) 1970s concept metal
