Hi,

I don't think I've ever posted in here before. My father has a couple of original Tamiyas that he'd (and me, actually) like to restore, the Rough Rider and Sand Scorcher. Where should we look for spares in order to keep them as original as possible? The bodywork is all good, but I imagine servos, batteries, chargers and other things are needed.

Any advice?

Thanks.

I can sort you with batteries and chargers etc. For original parts I expect ebay will be your friend....

Worth signing up to tamiyaclub.

Both of those models have been re released which means spares are easier to come by, it just depends how purist you want to be about the origin of the parts - many collectors will insist on using vintage parts despite their inherent likelihood of being more brittle and discoloured.

I knew they'd been re-released, but I didn't know the parts would be the same. That's probably the best bet then thanks!

Yes by all means. Best bet is to drop them a couple links to the section on the website.

Bear in mind that some of the re-release kits vary slightly from the originals. That said Tamiyaclub is a great community that collectively knows anything you could ever need to know about Tamiya models.

The best place to try, far better than Tamiya Club.

The Facebook group looks useful, I'll pass that on, thanks.

I'm not doing this work, but these photos I was sent are amusing. Old Sand Scorcher tyres came off. Or fell off. I think they're the originals.

New ones on, much better.

The more I look at that I think that's a Rough Rider. Hmm, let me ask.

The front mounting is definitely from a Sand Scorcher.
