I'm looking for a really nice setting for a meal later this year as a celebration whilst we're out there.

I've provisionally booked Zengo at Le Royal Meridien as it looks a really nice setting. Another option I've thought about is Bateaux Dubai. Any other suggestions? I'm not messing about with At.Mosphere or anything like that as the mrs isn't into neuvelle cuisine / anything with foam.

Bateaux Dubai is nice, but not REALLY special.

The Burj? A bit expensive (100 quid for a bottle of Blue Nun!!!) but the fooid is brilliant.

PierChic is really nice, but again on the pricey side of things. And I did have a dish there that featured some foam....!

But lovely restaurant on the end of a candle lit pier (the restaurant is the only building on the pier) with great views directly alongside the Burj Al Arab.

Seafood predominantly.

There is a really nice South American steak restaurant alongside the Souk Al Bahar, which is basically at the Dubai Mall. The restaurant itself is hidden out of the way and I think is part of The Palace Hotel.
Its called Asado. Well worth a visit, good wines, a BBQ pit in the middle of the restaurant for baby goat that is a great starter.

Again, expensive, but that's to be expected with Dubai and nice food unfort! - it's worth it here though.

Agreed on the Argentinian steak place in the palace, great setting, lovely food and good service.

Assuming this is when it is cool enought to sit outside, (and not too cold to sit outside - I went in January and it was cold!), an alternative I would recommend, book cocktails/champagne in the Jetty Lounge, then get them to book the boat across to the sister hotel with your meal reservation and eat at the 101 restaurant.

Tell you where we had some amazing food was the brunch at the 'Karma Kafe' in Souk Al Bahr.

It's run by the same guys that set up the Buddha Bar.

Food was lots of little stuff - sort of Tapasesque - but brought to the table and was sublime, some of the best we've had here. Great views from the outside area as well.

It's going through a refurb at the moment but should be open soonish. - http://www.karma-kafe.com/

Sounds like a good option actually although my original plan was going to be 101 for drinks first then food at one of the indoor restaurants. We're staying in the marina and it'll be National Day on the day so I want to stick close by just in case the traffic is mental. I was there a few years ago and it was insane but couldn't remember what night of the week it fell on. Jetty Lounge could be good just in case there are fireworks on at the Burj Al Arab.

National Day you say?

Then be within walking distance. The Marina will be gridlocked.

I will in this case...i've already got a reservation at Zengo as it's across the road - we can do 101 another night.

I haven't been to Zengo [yet!] but it's the sister restaurant to Toro Toro at the Grosvenor. Same chef [Richard Sandoval] anyway. Toros is one of my favourite restaurants so certainly the food should be great.

Wrong end of town but another favourite is the Thai Kitchen at the Hyatt. Great setting [overlooks the creek marina] and food is tapas portioned Thai.

Be sure to check out Pier 7 in the marina. Fume on the 1st floor is decent food and great ambience at the lower end of the price scale. Scene's the same but with better beer. Asia Asia is really good [although pricier] and it'll be perfect weather for sitting on the balcony with a full marina view.

Another one to watch is Coya at the four seasons. Menu looks a winner, hope to check this one out at the weekend.

For Chinese food lovers I highly recommend Royal China (DIFC).

The Peking Duck pancakes are to die for. One of the best things I've ever eaten.

I'll check it out - I live next to DIFC.

We've been to a few restaurants there at the weekends but they're dead - obviously a week-day trip only.

Cool. Let me know what you think.

The Dim Sum is nice too, but the Duck is the star of the show.

I walk past this Chinese every day. A bit far for the Mrs to travel from home in the evening, so i'll have to see if I can pursuade someone to go at lunch. If only there were any pretty girls working around DIFC?! smile

The Dhow & Anchor at JBH does good pub grub. Their fish pie is particularly good.

It's also a nice spot for a few beers with a nice view of the Burj Al Arab.

i was pretty disappointed with the dhow & anchor. food was ok but nothing special, service was ste. my pick for gastropub type experience would be the reform grill.

I've been to the D&A several times specifically for the fish pie. What did you order?

Reform was around the corner from my own place. I've eaten there a few times and found the food average/overpriced.

Don't get my started on their service.

i had the soup and the butcher's cut [steak of the day]. the soup was the best part. the service was bad though, it was almost like we were an inconvenience and they were barely half full.

i also had a pint of london pride which haws served ice cold. bizarrely this was really good biggrin

haven't been to reform since winter. did try their new place [black lion?] which was a let down.

booked coya for tomorrow so hoping for good things. problem is who to take, i think i'm double parked!
