Today I became the very proud owner and custodian of this piece of TVR’s history.

It will be stable mate to my own 3000 ML.
I would be pleased to hear or read any stories, anecdotes, and tales from anyone who has any regarding the Gem.

Well done John, sure you will care for it properly and then use it and abuse it as it should be. Isn't it the same spec engine as the one in your ML?

Oliver.

Do you know much of the history of the car - Tommy had a number of cars registered TE2 including a Mk2', 3
and 1800s shaped car.

The plan is - well I didn't really plan at all, but it will be back on track and racing at some point. I've spoken to John Reid about the car, he knows it well, in fact he told me he raced it at Sebring, which I wasn't aware of.

The engine is similar to my M's, in that its a Ric Wood Cosworth GA, but its on triple webbers and probably got a wilder cam.

History, well It's a 1963 one owner TVR, developed by Tommy Entwistle over the last 53 years. I have a lot of paperwork with it that I have to sift through, including some hand written letters, so it is what is is.

Love to, but no chance really Neil, will set about it weekend and report.

Yes, you can tell people now, oh and thanks for the heads up on insurance, I went with who you recommended.

This is a photo of Tommy's lightweight Mk2 which I understand was sold so he could purchase the Mk3. You can just see Jackie Stewart's Marcos in the background. There are photos of the Mk3 in Filby's book (it appears to have the opposite two tone colour dark over light).

Tommy also raced a Mk3 with a 1800s style cam tail (this may be the same as your car). It would interesting to know if your car is an evolution of the first Mk3 or if there was another car.

Thanks

Rob

Yes.
Original body was aluminium I think and it still exists so I am led to believe.

Just reading through some of the paperwork and notes that came with the car, yes it is the car and, according to Tommy, the Aluminium panels were used as plugs to create the fibreglass body and are still around with John Reid.

Well done John. Glad to see it in good hands

I raced against Tommy in it in about 1992. IIRC it was at MG Silverstone in what is now the Thoroughbred Sportscar Championship and was then sponsored by Chapman Warren or possibly Flemings. Pam McCarthy runs it and I can put you in touch if you are interested

Good luck

Thank you, It would be good to talk to people who have known the car, and we will need all the help we can get.
Are you at the Gold cup meeting?, perhaps we could have a chat?
