Hey guys,

Milo was our 8 year old pud was rather unwell last week, he would be sick 2 – 3 times a day but only chucking up bile. We took him to the vets on Sunday when it was apparent he wasn’t getting any better. The vet checked him over and all he could find was that his tummy was a little inflamed so gave him an anti inflammatory shot. He had also lost 400gs in a week (he had his boosters the Saturday before so was weighed then).

Since the shot he has not been sick, he is back to his chatty demanding self and happy to chase a mouse on a sting about the house or hunt down a moth. However he is only eating a mouthful of food, we put it down for him and he will have a lick and then that’s it. He does normally eat dry food and doesn’t bother too much with the wet but we have not noticed his dry food going down either.

We have also not seen him use the litter tray at all (he is normaly quite regular). He is a house cat so no chance for him eating or going to the toilet else where.

Any ideas before I give the Vet another call?

Pilchards in tomato sauce, assuming he doesn't have a sore mouth. We use this a lot for inappetant cats.

Warm foods so warm cooked white fish or chicken (make sure the chicken isn't dry).

If no improvement after this then another vet visit may be needed and poss a couple blood tests to ck kidneys etc but hopefully he will be fine in another day or so.

Re the litter tray, do you mean just faeces?

I did think about grabbing him a chicken as it's his favorite.

In regards to the litter tray, we haven't noticed him actually use it. He has a brother so there is some stuff in there but not the normal amount, which made us think that he isn't using it.

I'm.not so concerned about faeces as he hasn't eaten much in last few days as long as he is not straining to go of course.

However it is really important that he is urinating a minimum of once a day.

We had exactly these symptoms with ours a fortnight ago (throwing up bile after eating).

Sliced chicken breast from asda/tesco got her eating again, broken up into little pieces and mixed in a little extra water to get her a bit more hydration.

Took about a week to return to normal but she's back on wet food/biscuits again.

Hope yours perks up soon. We got ours to the vets after a couple of days throwing up/listlessness. She was picking up again a little but still wasn't eating - vets gave her a couple of jabs, I think to settle stomach and one to rehydrate a little. After getting a couple of small chicken meals in she started to recover quickly.

Thanks smile I was kinda thinking the same thing, I will make sure that he is urinating and will get him some chicken on the way home.

Sadly Milo isn't really into fish frown I picked him up a chicken as I can kill two birds with one stone so to speak (his dinner and my lunch for tomorrow).

Is it a good idea to whip up a gravy for him too?

Neither are mine, unless its tinned tuna laugh

Both turn their noses up at wet food that contains fish

Well he had a bit of chicken that was about as big as my finger, licked another bit and then walked away frown

I think you need to be going back to the vets with him tomorrow. His appetite needs to be getting better more quickly than this.

Working from home today so got him into the vets early.

The vet had a good poke about and couldn't find anything too wrong with him, didn't want to take a blood test just yet as he was perky and behavior wise OK. He did give him something to clear his bowls out tho....which he proceeded to do all over the surgery, cat basket and living room.

His stomach appears to be settled now and he has used the litter try (surprised he didn't stroll past holding a newspaper!)

He seems to be over the ordeal!

Fingers crossed he starts to eat now then smile

Please do try the pilchards & tuna as Bex & I have suggested, he may not normally like fish... but he normally likes chicken & has rejected that. They can be funny creatures

Well he seemed to wolf down the tuna! Didn't give him too much as didn't want it to come back up but so far he has had around half a bowl full this evening.

Great news thumbup though the earlier mess sounds a bit grim, did the vet think he was bunged up (we don't often have to give them, thankfully!)
