Provided you like AWD and non Msport suspension? Otherwise you go RWD F30/31 330d with PPK which is cheaper than the x35d to boot & currently BMW do not make a PPK for the x35d ---- I wonder why that is while every other model has it, is it due to the fact it will can abalone sales from the high end petrol/to some buyers make the gap to the M3 on paper seem small/aware on PH we all know it's much more than that but it might be the logic.
AWD does make the car feel very sure footed and the traction makes things like pulling out of junctions quickly in the wet very easy; we're also out and about with the dogs and on occasion the AWD is nice to have if you end-up parked in a wet field at something like an Agricultural show! However, if I'm honest I never found RWD BMW's a problem in normal road driving and I'm not sure I'd opt for X-Drive if the 335d was offered with RWD. I also take your point on the suspension and I think either adaptive suspension or some after market suspension modifications (like the ACS springs) are almost a must have with an X-Drive; I went for the former and in sport mode it's good enough for me most of the time although in truth there's been the odd occasion where I've thought it was still a touch ponderous. However, that could be more the fact it's a relatively big, heavy, estate and perhaps a RWD with sport suspension wouldn't be any better either (although don't know because I've never had the chance to push one over a twisty road). In terms of 30d v 35d, I've driven both and personally I just think the 35d is a sweeter engine with a smoother power delivery and much less clatter on start-up; not sure to what extent the PPK addresses any of that with the 30d but my suspicion would be that it's still not as refined as the 35d. The best 3-series diesel solution would almost certainly be the Alpina D3 but sadly they're a lot more expensive when you take into account the large discounts available on the normal 3-series range....
I wonder if the D3 means there could be an agreement with Alpina not to do a 35d / 40d PPK? Probably not but I do wonder.
With reference to the new 40i engine, I will be looking at that closely when I change cars next, but my heart is with a V8 so ultimately I think I will be going back to petrol, as soon as financially viable too.

BMW have a 381bhp 3.0d engine which they could I presume put it into the f30 if they wanted to, but they seem to have made the decision to make the fastest non M f30 they sell also a pretty sloppy car in the handling dept. With reference to the new 40i engine, I will be looking at that closely when I change cars next, but my heart is with a V8 so ultimately I think I will be going back to petrol, as soon as financially viable too.
Almost as if they are saying, yes you can have the 0-62 time (as low as 4.7) but not the handling to match, perhaps they really don't want the M brand to be trumped in the brochure or on the road.
From previous thread ....
Green (MG60) is Std
Red (M5ET) is a bluespark generic £150 tuning box
Pink (HJ64) is Steinbauer box
Other Green (TR08) is DMS remap
Blue (WJ14) is Ecotune stage 1 remap
The Ecotune remap is good value and close to its claimed performance figures.
For the tuning boxes, the generic bluepark setup was smooth and extremely good value.

Probably because we are seen as the lowest of the low on here we have to try and justify it when we can
Talking about low, I'm going to ACS on Friday to have some springs fitted, job will take a while what did you do when you went? I'm thinking of nipping to Sandringham if it's open. Wills2 said:

Unless you particularly fancy a day out there looks to be a number of dealers in the North who can fit ACS parts without the need for a trip down to Norfolk?! JNW1 said:

True but I want that piece of mind that "ACS UK" are doing it and I've read good things about them, and I want to talk to them about their exhaust options whilst I'm down there.Wills2 said:

Fair enough, was just thinking someone like Stratstone Harrogate could have done it and you're then on the doorstep of the Dales to check whether there's been any improvement or not! Wills2 said:

Hello Wills you are going to get a nice surprise!!!.....dont know where your coming from but if you want the ultimate before and after run google Prick willow its a 5 mile straight but undulating road which my sat nav found coming from London.Said it on here before my partner was with me it was so ludicrous on Standard springs didnt know whether to laugh or cry a toddler sitting in the back with no seat belt would have bounced off the seat.Coming back just planted my foot and we went ,could have cried that time!!Brilliant.Lorcan drove us into town and picked us up about 4 hours.

Come on then Wills ,dont keep us in suspenders ,give us a review!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing re the workshop ,it struck me how clean it was.Classy
Yes very clean nice bunch of guys, in terms of a review I had a long bank holiday traffic infested drive back up the a17 and a1 and from that I could tell the car wasn't any firmer which I liked, once on to the moorland b roads near home and before that some sweeping a roads the car felt very flat and cut into corners with distain for the curve and the speed I was carrying through them. One thing re the workshop ,it struck me how clean it was.Classy

The car feels more hunkered down with far more control at each corner if that makes sense?
