Hi all,

I can clearly hear a frictional noise when I apply my brakes as if the pads are contacting a rough surface and it doesn't go away while driving although more noticeable at low speed. From what I have read this could be pads getting low and/or corrosion on the disks/drums but I heard this should get removed after applying the brakes a few times while driving, but it doesn't go away so could indicate it's quite bad. It sounds more like it's coming from the front disk brakes not the rear drums but not 100% sure it's not both. It's really hard to see the disks through the wheels I have unfortunately and I don't have a jack to be able to take them off but should buy one!

I've also encountered a sort of creaking when pulling off and a resistance for the car to move off almost like if you try to move with the hand brake applied. All this seems to indicate at least one issue with the brakes. Maybe a sticky caliper could cause this second issue?

The car is still within warranty but I suspect most issues with brakes would be classed as wear and tear and not covered by the warranty.

Do you think any of my assessments might be sound?

I was just thinking it was likely the pads/shoes but it wouldn't hurt to take it to the dealer and see if it's a warranty claim. Thanks

No1 sounds like wirebrushing, which is an NVH issue rather than a proper mechanical issue and its often a precursor to squeal. If you go out and give the brakes a bit of a pasting you might find it disappears for a while.

No2 sounds like creep groan which is another common NVH affliction. Blame your car manufacturers quality department for letting that out!

I think i agree with you on the wire brushing, maybe the disks are rusted a bit, doesn't help that i can't see them easily. I have to say the rear drum outer casing looks quite rusted from what i can see but imagine these are easy to replace. Amazing how quickly this can happen.

The creaking when moving off i need to look into a bit more, i've only noticed it once after the car had been standing for a few days. But haven't been back out in it yet.
