Hi Folks,

Looking for a way to get Sky signal upstairs in full HD without paying for a going to Multiroom package.

I have tried an SD wireless system - it's no good, rubbish and unreliable picture sadly.

Just seen the HDMI over mains option. Very expensive but if it works it might be a worthwhile investment.

Anyone tried this option? Are there better / cheaper and equally effective alternatives?

Thanks
TD

I had a mains system around 5 years ago, it was eye wateringly expensive. It worked ok, would crash every now and again, plus there was perhaps a second of lag on the transmition. Which if you had a tv on same channel elsewhere was a bit annoying. If you use power line adapters for internet through your mains, the 2 systems used to have problems with speed, so was buffering issues.

I switched to wireless hd senders which are pretty good, but suffer going through a supporting wall and an external wall. These also crash now and again and need to be reset. The WiFi system was a lot cheaper but is way more recent purchase.

I'd like to give you names of systems I've got, unfortunately I'm not at home so can't help. Think the power line option was 1500 with 2 receivers and the WiFi system was around 600 with 2 receivers.

Thanks for the info!

Have been looking at this system for the HDMI over mains:-

So not £1500 like yours was a few years ago but a still a tidy sum at £300.

That said, if it works flawlessly then it might be worth it in the long run.

Can you run Cat6 or Even coax ? If you can then use a Balun set, Cat 6 better, will need to split Hdmi out of source sky box

The house is actually wired with coax (although I have blocked off the socket in the sitting room as at the time I had no use for it).

The coax is distributed from the attic with lines going to both the rooms I want to have Sky in - so it would not be too hard to join it all up in to one cable going from the living room to the bedroom. Pain to knock holes in the wall again but it is all repairable I guess.

Mind you, looks like the equipment above is the same price as the HDMI over mains, so is there any advantage given that I will have to open up the living room wall to access the blocked off coax socket? If the HDMI over mains kit works just as well then this seems to be the easier option - but only if it truly works!

Any other suggestions?

A customer is asking us to install one of these on a large job we are currently doing.

I'm not convinced personally, but it's a HDMI RF modulator so you could install this to your existing coax distribution amplifier and get "HD" on any TV via tuning into a channel, apparently in HD.

No idea how well it work but it's worth a look. I'd never recommend it really if you can get cat 6 cables around though.

We watch Sky on XBox (which also gives you access to various other streaming and online movie apps) with Ethernet over the mains via Homeplug... This any good for you?

HDMI to SDI converters. About £30 each end. Job jobbed.
