Further to my last post about good areas to live in Greater Manchester, i have come to conclusion that it would be very difficult for us to live in Prestwich as schools are not that good in this area.

I have looked at the other side of Manchester west Didsbury, Stretford and Altrincham and i think area and school wise Altrincham is far better than others. Please do correct me if i am wrong, i just saying as per my online research.

We are planning to rent on long term basis and our budget is around £950.

Does anyone know about good areas to live in Altrincham (near schools and amenities), are there any areas to avoid?

Please do let me know if there are any other good areas with good schools.

Altrincham (where I live) covers a wide variety of areas - Bowdon is one of the very best areas, with some of the most expensive housing in the country along with it's neighbour Hale yet it literally borders Broadheath which whilst hardly Moss Side, is certainly in relative terms one of the less desirable parts

Altrincham does indeed have some great schools but here is the dilemma

So one of the issues is do you go for a better property in a more average part of Altrincham or an entry level property in one of the more expensive parts - that budget won't get you much living in Hale for instance, but it would in Timperley.

I think depending how snobby one is/isn't, you will get very different answers on here and in general about how 'bad' some of the cheaper areas of Altrincham are - Altrincham is certainly not a rough place in general terms. I have 2 different routes I can take to work which take me through 2 very different parts of Altrincham - one way through Bowdon & Hale will typically see Bentleys, Rolls, Ferraris, Mclarens, Astons, Porsches, etc on an everyday basis plus of course, so many Evoques, Range Rovers, etc that it looks like a caricature whilst the other route is......well just normal. Whether more money means it's a better area is a different matter of course
