Hello,

as i know, the frame of all TVR V8S is red.
Do someone know the paint code for this red paint?

It was originally a powder-coat finish so I don't know if there was ever a paint code for the chassis. What I can tell you is that Ford Radiant Red was very close to the original red on my chassis.

possibly not a code as used for body colours but maybe a RAL number?

But, there again, perhaps whatever the powder coaters had in stock that day wink

That is my understanding as well.

Hi
When I had a red under black, I found the red was RAl 3002 ( I think) not sure if was what left the factory, It's was on a 1988 S, went with black in the end.

Which type of red? The bright red (quite rare) or the darker, almost terracotta red (common on most S' from S3 onwards, including nearly all V8S')

For the bright red, I think (like others have alluded) you just go with a bright red. This is RAL3020 (Traffic Red):

This is the darker red, RAL3011 (Brown Red - it looks really brown on the charts, but doesn't come out like it!):

Were all chassis red? I thought there were black and white ones also from new but maybe I'm not thinking of S's.

In my experience....

Very early cars were often black. S1's then switched to white until around late 1989, when early S2s were out. Most S1s seem to be white chassis.
Early S2s can either be white or black. Haven't seen a red one, though that doesn't mean they don't exist as it's quite likely they will.
Every S3 and V8S I've worked on was darker red. Haven't ever worked on an S4 chassis (would be the one I'd love to get my hands on!)
Weirdly, the S1 chassis' tend to fare the best in terms of corrosion, in my experience. You get the exceptions, but if we take an S1 apart, chances are the chassis will need less doing to it than an S2 or S3. Can only assume that's down to the coating. Irony is on a Chimaera or Griffith, a white chassis is the one you don't want!

The above is only what I've witnessed working on various cars, it's not absolute fact.

Wedges from the same kind of era are usually black, though I've had bright red ones in too. Never had a white Wedge chassis. 70's stuff tends to be black (again, only speaking from experience). Gets much easier once you get to Chimaeras and Griffiths though.

Richard

I think the S4 chassis is the same as the V8S; at least that is what I have read, I've never compared them.

It is more similar to a V8S chassis, yes. I'd just be interested to get my hands on one so I can say "Ah, I see what you did there!" etc

Just to confirm Richard's observations: my very early E reg S1 has a white chassis, so does BarryS1's chassis ( F reg ). thumbup

Both are in very good condition, perhaps because they never go out in the wet.

The only black chassis S1's I've had in are twin-bonnet pull models - everything is white. That's how rare the black ones are!

Austin has twin bonnet pulls and the digital clock. And the instruments aren't upside down and back to front like the later ones. wink

Thanks Gary, but there may have been some occasions when your observations could be shown to be be at variance with the facts. wink Somebody has to keep Kev's Mum's hair dry. whistle

My 1992 V8S chassis seems a different colour red to both pictured above, it's more postbox red. I've had the chassis restored but it didn't need a complete respray and this matched the original perfectly.

I chose a colour which was simply called LDV Trucks Chassis Red from my local paint suppliers colour charts. I wanted to retain a fairly dark red as some eg Hammerite Red is way too bright. It turned out pretty close to the original powder coat on my S3 as you can see.
The AFM bracket laid on the chassis still has original powder coat.

My advice would be to take a piece in the original finish to the paint shop and have a look through the books.

HTH,

Carl

Never seen a grey before. Seen plenty of whites that are flithy and stained, but never a grey. We've done a couple of greys though, they look good!
