Hi All

This may have appeared before but I thought I would post it anyway.

Nelson Racing Engines and at about 5 mins in there is an engine used in an Ultima with mega power. How they managed to fit it into the car I have no idea.
Still an impressive engine.

Enjoy!

Paul, if you google 'Falcon racing ultima GTR' there are some pictures of the engine bay.

Its a very similar engine setup to what was used in the maximus supercar (ultima with a different name) a few years ago.

That is a very good looking car with some impressive engineering.

I have, however, noticed an omission.

They forgot the fuel tanks!!!!! biggrin

The rate at which that thing pumps petrol, I suspect the the length of the runway will be all it can manage smile

They probably stuffed a tank in place of the spare wheel biggrin Oh, Ults don't have a spare? It must be elsewhere (behind the seats perhaps)

They could be using air to water coolers in the side pod area (over the stock fuel tanks. Alternatively on the Maxiumums car they used air to air intercoolers in the same location. Not sure how big they are as there isn't a great deal of room.

Maybe modded the stock tanks to get a little more room for intercoolers?

A big lottery win and I would get someone to design me a unique engine...

NRE were working on a Quad Cam SBC engine (based off the GM LT5 engine) but I think R&D has stopped. Could make for a killer power plant esp in an ultima.

Also Mercury Racing engines, famed for there marine engines, have developed a quad cam conversion for the LS. I think its a prototype at the moment put it saw shown at a SEMA show in 2013 or 14. This is a similar setup to their QUAD cam Big block engine only for the LS engine.

Both of these top ends should allow massive RPM out of a SBC size package.

Well if you mean quad OHC then it wouldn't quite be "LS" or "SBC" sized package anymore. Little wider, weight shifts up a bit. Still might not be a bad trade but to leverage the RPM everything inside will need to be top shelf.

Bottom end has never been the issue with these engines (LS) it's the valve train that has caused the issues. Add boost and valve float is common. With DOHC you remove a lot of the mass the spring(s) have to move. Therefore you can rev this thing higher.

The Mercury Racing heads only moved the exhaust ports I think and not by a lot. Yes the heads would be bigger but probay only the same size as the GM LT5 heads. The NRE units were based of the LT5 stuff anyway.

So yes I think it's still a LS / SBC with these. smile

Bit of nasty feedback around about that place

Steve Morris seems to be the man to use & he makes big power out of anything

Yes, I also came across on a lot of negative feedback on NRE about non deliveries, court cases and so on.
Don't know how much is true but whilst I'm in search of a new engine this place is a no go for me. Meanwhile I've been wondering how
cheap the Aussies are on there SBC-s and LS-engines and they really seem to know there stuff. I am seriously thinking of putting in an order there.

Don't discount EU engine builders also. The Sweeds and Fins seem to be all over these engines at the moment. Also I'm sure there are some decent UK based chaps that could build you a nice LS engine.

Although I hear some negativity around NRE they seem to be making a lot of engines (1-2 a month) so someone is buying them. The also have a link to a German drag team that are using one of there engines. It seems to be working pretty well also.
