It’s a question that has continued to baffle academics, stirred the soul of man since the primal spluttering of that first internal combustion engine and (inevitably) fuelled many a forum thread … which car is fastest off the line?

Here is YOUR chance to help us find out, as we put the call out for a small number of very special supercars to complete our ultimate line up and discover who is the real ‘king of the strip’. PistonHeads is working with our colleagues at Autocar and our PHTV film crew for what can only be described a drag race extravaganza to be filmed and streamed across both publications.

Yes, we want as many supercars as possible to take part and go 0-60 and beyond!

The event will take place over the course of two days on the 2nd and 3rd of September at Alconbury airfield, where we will be will be filming each individual shootout along the main runway of the former US airbase.

You might have the car that we need to complete our ultimate line up, and have the opportunity to show an audience of thousands just how good you are behind the wheel of your pride and joy.

The shortlist of cars we’re after includes:

Ferrari F12
Ferrari La Ferrari
Ferrari F40
Ferrari F50
Lamborghini Aventador
Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
Lamborghini Huracan
Lamborghini Murcielago (any variety)
Porsche 911 Turbo S (991)
Lexus LFA

However, we are also looking for some American Muscle to bring to the table and fight their corner.
Ideally a Camaro, Corvette (in particular a C7 Stingray) and of course a Mustang!

This isn’t an exhaustive list and if you have a car you think should be there by all means make your case!

If you are the proud owner of one of these fabulous supercars and you would like to take part them please send and email to info@pistonheads.com with your name, car registration, the name of the registered keeper, your availability whether for one or both days … and the total loss value of the car for insurance purposes. Please note that although we will fully cover each vehicle on our company insurance, we cannot cover the cost of tyres, or wear and tear occurred on the day. You’ll be driving so it’s up to you how hard you want to go!

Many thanks

Ollie

A Camaro and a Mustang - but not a Challenger?

Here is a short vid of a 2SS Camaro getting it's headlights sucked out by a 392 Challenger. The Dodge fluffed it's launch and still smoked the Chevy.

It's quicker than a Challenger for sure.

Unfortunately, I'm not available at that time as didn't think you would be interested but I have a friend with a Ford Lightning that would probably give most of the cars on your list a run for the money.

This one runs low 10's in the quarter mile

For clarification, are you looking for heavily modified American cars, or production vehicles? If it's the former, I'm quite sure there would be numerous candidates capable of wiping the floor with any of the exotica mentioned in the opening post.

Adam's truck, über-rapid as it is, seems very far from stock - unlike the Challenger he's beating-up in the photograph. That Scat Pack, in the right hands will consistently run low 12 quarters and hit 100mph in around 9 seconds (mine does, anyway). That makes it appreciably faster than SS Camaro or GT Mustang, which was my original point.

I suspect there are road legal Ford Escorts in UK (HPE being an obvious) that will run 9 second quarters - are they invited too?

It's stock-ish silly

Matt is right. Although road legal, these are modified vehicles.

I've never lost to any exotica on the strip because they aren't set up for drag racing so its not exactly a fair contest.

If it was a roll race from 50 to 150, I'd be dead in the water compared to your list.

If I could spare the time which I cannot at the moment I would have gladly bought my Challenger Hellcat along. Supposed to run 11.2 on street tyres at 126mph in the quarter. Not saying I could replicate those times as I have never done a quarter mile run in my life. 0-100 in 7 seconds. It is quick for a 2 tonne flying brick smile

Getting those tires and rear suspension to hook with all that torque requires some finesse. This vid shows two runs Hellcat vs Scat Pack. In the first run the Hellcat hooks well, launches hard and stomps the SC's ass. In the second run, it all goes to st for the Hellcat - too much power and not enough tire.
In the US, when you buy anything SRT, you get complimentary factory backed track-time and coaching. One of the coaches stated on Challengertalk that the Hellcat was much more difficult to drive fast than the SRT-8 or the 392SP.
I think that anyone utilizing any kind of Challenger for drag racing needs drag radial tires in order to get off the line without going all squirly.
