Evening Gents..

It has been a job on the to-do list for a while now but last weekend, the under bonnet heat shield matting finally detached it self from the bonnet...

Ive noticed a few of you have silver shielding under yours... just wondering what products you have used for this ??

I have scanned the net and found several possibltlies but not sure whether to go for the 'duct tape' type or the cut to shape matting style products..

have anyone got any tips n trick etc.. have a long weekend coming up and will be looking to do it during the wkend.. havn't wanted to drive the 350 with it like this just in case of doing damage to engine..

Cheers
Dom..

Hi mate...You can use just the foil tape but you will need to remove as much as possible any remnants of glue or oil..Or go for something like "Dynamat" which is like a fibreglass mat with the foil over it...Some have adhesive backing..Try these people...But as said you will still need to remove any grease or glue from the underside with whatever you choose...I went the foil only route and its fine....

Hi Dom, hope all is good. Mine was detaching at an alarming rate so i took the bonnet off and carefully peeled the black insulation off. It was in good condition apart from lack of glue and has the TVR logo on it so i bought some high temperature spray adhesive off flea and spent a few hours carefully spraying and re-bonding the insulation. I left it a few hours in the sun with several house bricks on it and it's stuck fine.

I suppose if the actual insulation is shot then it's a personal choice of original black or shiny silver. My view is the black absorbs the heat rather reflecting even more heat back on to the engine.

Cheers.

Evening all.

with an evening of good weather this evening, I thought I'd make a start fixing the under bonnet matting..

Flipped open the bonnet and found this..

I think that is kinda beyond repair... so started to remove the lot..
Anyway.. couple of hours later.. its looking like this.

Lets just hope for good weather over the next couple of days so I can take the bonnet off, fully clean and prep surface and then apply the tape...
wish me luck wink

ps.. any ideas what the 403 would have meant ?? production no. / body style etc...

Good luck! Hopefully see you at the Aviator on Sunday? There's a few going now - Roger and myself in the Wedges, Ian in his 500 Griff, another Griff owner, Bob in the Chimaera and hopefully Glyn in his Tuscan, if he gets his CV boot sorted.

403 is probably the last three digits of the chassis number. All the 'loose' panels on my cars are marked like this, I guess at some point in the manufacturing process the panels must have been removed and then re-united with the car later. Even the interior panels are marked with the chassis number.

Nice and shiny mate....smile
@: Sireatalot...Personally i would use the dynamat as i only used the tape through lack of funds...The mat would need glue..AF 178 is the best stuff to use...If you are going the tape route then maybe this would be better than the other stuff....

Might redo mine with some....

Mine dropped off and looked just like those pics, I spent a happy few hours scraping the old glue off, and simply spray painted it black, becuase I had an old can laying around. So far, it's been fine (2.8 though, not a V8)
