The caste system is a messed up thing. A Hindu friend has tried to explain it to me, he tried to justify it as it's something to do with how you have behaved in a previous life or something equally weird and Glenn Hoddle-ish.
But how can any sane person condone gang rape as a relative has been with someone of a difference caste? You would expect the people of India causing an uproar but most of the negative press seems to be in the West.

Don't get your hopes up. A few years ago I managed some on-shored Indians. One day in the office the UK natives and I were expressing incredulity at news of Indian villagers stoning a woman to death for witchcraft. In this case the higher caste woman was also a victim of forcible marriage to break up the relationship she already had with the brother.

Aside from the ruling how they managed to convince/make a gang of man rape anyone is beyond belief (unless it was convicted current rapists?)
