Dubai Duty Free
Discussion
Just to copy in what I put in the Middle East thread for those interested:
Just went and asked at the Rolex Dealer in the mall, with discount it shouldn't work out too much different from duty free...
The discounted price they can offer is 148,000 dhs for the yellow gold.
At today's exchange rate 148k = £26,374.
Slight issue is no yellow gold ones in stock anywhere in Dubai as the last one was purchased yesterday, that said they say they always ensure at least one in stock across their stores, so expect delivery in the next couple of days.
White gold is in stock at 163700 dhs after discount.
To be honest, when you are in there with the money you should be able to get a little more knocked off I think - they did with me when I said I might be look to get mine in duty free.

Just had a call from my other half who is in Dubai duty free as we speak and it would appear that if buying in Dubai it's cheaper to stop over and take a trip to the Mall.Just went and asked at the Rolex Dealer in the mall, with discount it shouldn't work out too much different from duty free...

Ok, that's pretty interesting.
How does it compare to the RRP? Is it somewhere in the region of £29-£30k if buying in the UK? And could you expect to get any discount from a dealer in the UK?
Dubai is a funny place as a consumer, even though it is 'tax free' most items seem to be marked up and sold at a price comparatable or more expensive than the UK retail price including tax. There are certain items that are beneficial to buy here, and I guess watches are one of them.
I was going to buy my Explorer 1 here at a price that was equal to the UK retail price - it wasn't until I committed to buy that the dealer knocked 10% off. When I pushed a little more he took it to 13% but couldn't drop any lower than that. It made for a good saving and it seems as though I paid the same for my brand new Explorer as a 1-3 year old pre-owned example would set me back from sites such as WatchFinder. Overall very happy.
Ps. The quote I got was from the manager at Rolex at The Mall of The Emirates. He said he would have to get prior permission to authorise that discount, but said it wouldn't be a problem. I have his direct contact details if you are genuinely interested.

You might want to check out Iconic Watches:

Don't think I've ever found anyone cheaper and they're a good company to deal with.
