So I am 24, with a post 1997 license. Might have an opportunity to pick up a 1999 TD5 110 CSW. With 12 seats.

The internet leads me to believe I can't drive or insure it, but I can't wrap my head around it. To my mind, I AM allowed to drive a 15 seat minibus under 3.5t for social purposes, under the cat B exemption, so why not a defender. Would this work?

If not, how easy (paperwork wise, the technical bit is easy) to convert to and insure as a 9 seater? I would remove the front middle and the rear benches, and fit a cubby and 4 inward facings in the load area. Any recommendations of good insurers for young defender owners?
